Mr. Loring, the director of music at Limestone College, has gone to At lanta to attend the recital by Pade rewski. , Wl T. Mooney has bought out the lunch room of E. R. Parker next door to T. H. Westhrop and will continue the business in the same stand. A lady quartette is always a source of delight to lovers of beautiful mu sic, and the Schubert Lady Quartette Is one of the best. Miss Cleo Gaffney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus Gaffney, left for Atlanta yesterday to enter a hospital where she will learn to be a trained nurse. Mr. Sayle Andrews, of Asheville, N. C., has been in Gaffney during the past few days, having come to attend the piano recital of his sister, Miss Angelle Andrews. The room in rear of the city hall to be used for storing the fine ap paratus has been finished and adds much to the convenience of the fire department. Rev. H. T. Abbet filled the appoint ment of Rev. J. R. Geiger at Lime stone Baptist church Sunday morn ing, preaching an interesting and in structive sermon to a good sized con gregation. The Sunday School Convention of Broad River Association will meet next Saturday and Sunday at State Line church. Delegates are expected from each church and Sunday school in the association. Lawrence Wood has been employed by the county supervisor to superin tend the construction of the iron bridge across the river at Stacy's fer ry. Schmidt is a good man for the place and will see that the bridge is properly constructed. J. K. Blackwell, of the Dravo works, says that there are still about two hundred men at work around the dam and it will be a couple of months before all the work will be finished. All the power that is being utilized by the town comes from Gaston Shoals. Jonah Hopper, colored, was given a preliminary examination Friday by United States Commission J. B. Bell. Jonah wag charged with retailing whiskey. Owing to the absence of an important witness, the hearing was not completed but was continued un til today. Some evil minded persons have started the report that the reason No. 11 stops here for dinner is because they always have such a large num ber of jugs to unload that they could save time by stopping for dinner. We suppose this report started in a joke, but unfortunately there are numbers of people who will say that it is true. Mr. Monroe Lemmons and Miss Mamie McCraw were married Sunday night at the home of the bride in the presence of a few friends, Rev. G. P. Hamrick performing the ceremony. The groom is a well known young business man of the city and the bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. G. McCraw, and is very popular among her friends. A negro boy about ten years of age, the son of Rice Allen, was bitten by a rabid dog on Saturday. His father brought him to Gaffney at once to the home of Mr. Brown Lowe, who has a mad stoae. The stone adhered to the wound for seven hour* and fifty minutes. The stone' was boiled several times and upon bein^ placed on the wound after boilii^ Woul4 here a|P|R. Wie have in prospect an engage ment of the celebrated Schubert Symphony Club and Lady Quartette Company of Chicago, and it U ex pected that they will be secured to give one of .their delightful entertain ments about April 16th. This com pany g'ves^ a program of the greatest variety, consisting of lady quartettes, mandolin and guitar club, string, vio lin and vocal solos, amusing readings. Yesterday Morning's Mayor’s Court Netted the city $85- It took Mayor Ross just nine minu tes yesterday morning to try fourteen cases in his court, which netted the city $85. Fred DeStafflno was fined $25 and thirty days for Imbibing too freely and raising a rough house at Rowan Jenning’s store on Saturday, Fred was very pesitant, but did con siderable damage to show cases glassware, etc. The mayor told him the fine was not for the purpose of extorting money—that the town did not need or want his money—but was for the purpose of impressing him with the Idea of good citizenship and to, if possible, make a better man of him. Marvin Smith, Aaron Ash and Sam Estes contributed $5 each for a little “cussing” match at the Southern de lict. Coley Watkins, Roy Sander, Seaf Littlejohn, Henry McLilly, Babe Leach and Pink Crow indulged in a little game and were rounded up by the officers. They were fined $5 each and warned not to be brought up on a similar charge. George Corry wag fined $5 for being drunk. He was advised not to let it happen again. Clara Brown, in whose house Wat kins and the others had gamed, was indicted for running a gambling house. She was fined $5 ana admon ished not to allow any more gambling in her house, or it would cause her to go to the gang if caught. In a case against Seaf Littlejhn for vagrancy judgment was suspended provided Seaf would go to work at once. Butler Dawkins forfeited $5 for a charge of disorderly conduct.
