A Second Race Between Meeei* Cash and Clary* More Interest was manifested in the election Tuesday to nominate a candidate to fill out the unexpired term of Miayor Ross as a memebr of the Board of Public Works, than was evinced in the election for mayor and aldermen. All day long the candi dates and their friends were busily engaged at work and when the smoke cleared away and the votes were counted, the following results ap peared: Ward 1. On Wednesday evening the Rebec ca® suspended regular meeting and gave the Rev. B. G. Rose a “pound ing.” Some twenty or more of the young men, not members of the or der, came also. Mr. and Mrs. Ross tabe this method of extending their heartfelt thanks to Rebeccas for remembering them in such a kind and substantial manner. In leaving Gaffney they desire to ex tend thank to all the people o fthe city thanks to all the people of the city for kindness to them since thev have lived here. To Dr. J. N. Regular service at the First Bap tist church next Sunday. In the morning Dr. Simms will speak on! “Sealed of God.” Night service at 7:30. Sunday school at 9:45. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend the services. Dr. Simms reports the foreign mis sion offering coming on nicely, a number of his members increasing their offerings above last year. Miss Angelle Andrews will give her graduation recital tonight, at the col lege, the dummy leaving town at 8 o’clock, to accommodate all who wish to attend. The president of the col lege has very courteously suspended the rules for a short time after the recital, in order that those who at tend may have an opportunity to meet the students. There should, and doubtless will be, a very large attend ance. Miss Mattie Simms Is to spend April and May at Hermitage, Tenn. She goes to teach a deaf girl who needs some preparation that she may enter school this fall. Miss Simms taught this girl in Texas some years ago and, since that time the family have been constantly appealing to her for help. The girl Is a bright one and is of a well to do Texas family who cannot hear the thought of their child being cut off from life’s joys and usefulness because of her af fliction. Miss Simms will spend a week In Morganton in the North Carolina school for the deaf and dumb that she may read up on new methods. The old cold goes; a new one quickly comes. Lawton, a business man of Greenville, spoke in the First Bap tist church last Sunday night on the layman’s movement.
