The Daniel Morgan Chapter of the
D. A. R. will meet at the residence of
Mrs. Chas. Hames on Wednesday af
ternoon at 3:30.

One week from next Friday the W.
C. Carpenter Company will inaugurate
a gigantic mill end sale. It will be
in charge of Mr. Shepperd Watson,
an experienced special sale man.
Mr. D. S. Crawley, who has lived in
Gaffney for the past eleven years and
has not lost a single days work with
in that time, removed to Rutherford-
ton, N. C., where he will engage in
farming.

Magistrate Camp officiated in a gret-
na green affair at his office Friday. He

Eula James. The young couple
came to Gaffney on train No. 11 and
went back to North Carolina on JNo.

Floyd L- Liles, one of Spartanburg’s
most prominent dry goods merchants,
was in Gaffney a few hours Wednes
day and expressed himself as aston
ished at the growth of our city. This
was Mr. Liles’ first visit to Gaffney
for fifteen years.
Dr. W. K. Gunter has accepted an
invitation to demonstrate before the
Dental Association at Shelby, N. C.,
Friday, the uses of artificial enamel,
the new material for filling teeth. He
will not, therefore, be In his office on
that day.

Turner are building a store house be

Looking from the intersection of Bu
ford and Limestone, the house has
the appearance of being in the mid
dle of the street. The building
•will be occupied by Garnet Mar
tin as a grocery store when finished.
Snow commenced to fall yesterday
morning about 2 o’clock and by 8
q’clock it was about four inches deep.
The mercury was 24 above at 8 o'clock
yesterday morning but it commenced
to get warmer and rain commenced
to fall and the snow to melt. Some
of our reliable weather prophets (we
do not refer to Hamp Pridmore) say
that we will have plenty of fruit this
year, as the colder the weather in
February the better year it will be for
fruit.

Conditions of the Contest.
The following are the conditions
under which those who enter the con
test for the $50 offered by the M. and
P. Bank must be governed. The
bank wishes all those entering, or in
tending to enter, to come into the
bank and give their names and ad
dresses as soon as they decide to en
ter the contest:
The undersigned enters the contest
for the $50 in gold offered by the
Merchants and Planters Bank of Gaff
ney, S. C., to the farmer raising the
greatest number of bushes of corn on
one acre of upland in Cherokee coun
ty in 1908.
The conditions agreed to are as fol
lows:
No bottom land, second bottom or
caught up low lands will be recogniz
ed. A head committee consisting of
three members, N. Lipscomb and R.
C. Sarratt of the Cotton Growers A*
sociation, and G. W. McKown, of the |
Farmers Union, shall, later in the
season, when they are furnished with
a list of the contestants, appoint sub
committees of three good reliable
fanners in different sections of the
county, who shall, at gathering time,
measure off one acre of land and see
the corn gathered and weighed or
measured and report to the head
committee the amount so gathered
and by whom, and when the head
committee has decided who is the,
successful contestant, they are to'
give him an order on the Merchants |
and Planters Bank for the prize.

Mr. Ralph LeMaster and Miss Del
la Humphries were married Sunday
afternoon at the Methodist parsonage
by Rev. S. B. Harper. The groom is
the son of Mr. G. W- LeMaster, of
Wllklnsville, and the bride is the
daughter of Mr. P. W. Humphries, of
Grassy Pond. The Ledger wishes
these young people all happiness in
their married life.
