Clary-Mathta.
Mr. John E. Clary, of Macedonia,
and MUss Bessie R. Mathis were hap
pily married last Wednesday, Rer.
G. P. Hamrick, officiating.
Mr. Clary s a young widower of the
Macedonia section and is qute pop
ular, while Miss Mathis is the oldest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Mathis*
and is quite popular, having a large
class in the Ravenna Sunday School,
and one of the most lovely young
ladies of the Ravenna neighborhood.
Mr. Floyd Karl Goforth and Miss
Leila Mathis, and Mr. Jim Clary and
Miss Ila Mathis were the waiters,
while Mrs. Bertha Mathis was the
maid of honor, and carried out the
ceremonies beautifully. Immediately
after Mr. Hamrick, in a few beauti
ful words, made them one for life, the
bride and groom received the con
gratulation^ of their friends.
A large dinner was spread and
all then “took on” a bountiful sup
ply of rations.
We extend our congratulations to
this happy couple, and from reports
the other Misses Mathis are engaged
property and m a y soon change their
names.
The bride and groom returned to
Macedonia Thursday, where they will
make their future home.
Several of our young people went
with them to Macedonia.
Death of a Good Woman.
Mrs. Harriet Petty, widow of the
late C. C. Petty, died at her home
about two miles out from the west
ern secton of the city, on Wednes
day, January 1st. She had been in
delicate health for some time, and
recently she developed pneumonia,
from which she died within eleven
days.
Mrs. Petty was born March SI,
| 1854. She married Mr. C- C. Petty
i on December 27. 1870. This union
was blessed with seven sons and four
i daughter*. Three daughters and
two sons are married, with seven
| children. Mr. Petty died several
years ago.
Mrs. Petty united with the Baptist
jchu-ch at Providence in early life.
She lived an exemplary Christian life
and died triumphant in the faith.
We feel that she has entered into
the heavenly fellowship of her Sav
iour. While she w-as with us we
thought of her as suffering, but now
we think of her not only released
from pain, but as rejoicing in the
i fullness of that sweet and abundant
life which flows from the throne of
God. We do well to give those up
I whom God would take from earth to
I heaven, and in our turn to follow
' after"them. T. !
You will hear unsuccessful people talk a
good deal about luck and fortune, bat it is ill
bosh. Fortune is merely the good, hard sertie
that causes a man to prepare himself to tak-f
D advantage of opportunity. Don’t be fooled, by
silly tales of prosperity, dealt out by the '.land
of fortune. The hand of fortune is a bank
book ami the person who has provided himself
with a nice, fat bank account is in position to
carve his own fortune and make it what he wishes. It may take (some economy,
thiift and perseverence to establish a good bank account, but it always pays u
the end. A small amount of cash will enable you to open an account with this
bank, where your moneyjwill be absolutely safe and where you may always de
pend upon the advice and influence of the bank to help your business interest*..

It Quiets
the Cough
This is one reason why Ayer’s
Cherry Pectoral is so valua
ble in cojisurfiption. It stops
the wear and tear of useless
coughing. But it does more
—it controls the inflammation,
quiets the fever, soothes, heals.
