the City, and Othar Events Gath

The Giiffney hanks will all be closed
on January ist, same being a legal holi
day.
The many friends of Dr. C. M. Little
john and family will be glad to know
that tbl> have returned to Gaffney to
live. 0
Fletcher Wood has moved to J. B.
Jones’ place in the country and A. C.
Moore is now occupying the house vaca
ted by Mr. Wood.
Leo Little has opened a skating rink in
the room formerly occupied by the Post-
office, which is being liberally patronized
h> the boys and girls of the city. Leo
proposes to run a clean,quiet place which
anyone may visit. It is called The Odeon.
Miss Ford, of Limestone College, gave
an entertainment on Tuesday night to
quite a number of the younger set,
which was very much enjoyed. Deli"
cious refreshments were served and the
young people who attended are willing
to vote Miss Ford the most popular young
lady in the city.
Johnson Burgess met with quite a pain
ful accident on last Monday night on his
way home from Gaffney. He was trot
ting his horse down a hill when the
animal stepped in a hole aud, falling,
threw his rider over his head and then
fell on him. Johnson was painfully hurt,
aud as a consequence will he confined to
his bed for some time. Tom Wyatt, with
his wife and baby, were just in front of
Johnson in a buggy, and when the ac
cident occurred it frightened Wyatt’s
horse, which ran, completely demolish
ing the vehicle. Fortunately none of
them was injured.
At tht Edison.
The program at “The Edison” to-night
comprises the thrilling story "All for a
Necklace,” “The Runaway Mortor Car"
and the beautiful and artistic colored film
‘ ‘T ransf ormation. ’ ’
People speak very highly of the illus
trated song "Love Me and the World is
Mine ”
A number of views made by the pro
prietor, of scenes in the Phillipine and
Sandwich Islands will also be shown.
The Fldison has been open every after-
nson and evening for the past week and
Mr. Buckingham is well satisfied with
the patronage he has received.
The picture “Lost in the Alps” is prob
ably the most popular moving picture
ever shown in Gaffney. More of the
same character are soon to be received.
The Edison will open New Years Day
from 1:30 to 5 and from 6:45 to 10 p. m.

At the regular meeting of Limestone
Lodge No. 74, K. of P. last Monday
night the following officers were elected
for the ensuing year: W. K. Gunter, C.
C.; Junius Parrott, V. C ; Rev. S. B.
Harper, Prelate; C. E? Hamrick, K. of
R. and S.; M. J. Goudelock, M. of F.;
Joe Robertson, M. of W.; Arthur Ken
drick, M. of E.; H. K. Osborne, M. at A.;
Harry Byars, I. G.; W. H. Perry, O. G.;
W. S. Hall, D. G. C.; Jones J. Darby,
Trustee. The lodge has enjoyed a very
prosperous year, and is in good condition
financially. The newly elected officers
will be installed on the first meeting
night in January.

I desire to say to those whom * I have
unfinished business transactions with that
I have been very ill for the last fifteen
days. Consequently haven’t been able
to meet them; but, are now improving
rapidly and think I’ll be able to see them
in a short while. R. E. Linder.
Prompt payment
Mr. A. W. Smith, of this county, died
December 6th. Mr. Smith held a two
thousand dollar policy in the New York
Life. Proof of death was furnished the
company on Decimber 14th, and on De
cember 21, a check was issued for the
amount and mailed to Mr. E. K. Belue>
the company’s representative iu this
county. Mr. Belue banded a check to
Mrs. Sarah E. Smith and Miss Sallie M.
Smith, the beneficiaries, for the full
amount on Saturday.
Death of Mr. J- J. Kendrick.
John J. Kendrick, of lower Cherokee,
died December 24th at 7 p m. He leaves
seven children and a second wife. He
has been a member of Schull Shoals
church for many years. Mr. Kendrick
would have been 80 years of age the 14th
of next month.

o’clock, at the home of the bride on
Limestone street.
