NOTES AND COMMENT*.
The Piedmont Observer sussests
Mat each township subscribe **ocfc

township have representation on the
beard of directors. This we think Is
a capital suggestion. Let this mat
ter be discussed at the next Board of
Trade meeting.

The Columbia State on Sunday Is
sued Its Christmas edition. It Is a
genuine work of art. and is character
istic of the enterprising progresslre-
ness of one of the best newpsapers
of the Sou .a. The State believes In
the old motto that "Whatever Is
worth doing at all is worth doing
well.” This not only applies to the
Christmas edition, but to every Issue
which comes from Its press.
• * *
The Charlotte Observer announced
some time ago that It woud Issue a
Christmas edition on December 15th.
We knew of the enterprise of that
splendid newspaper, but we were not
prepared for the mammonth slxty-
.fsur page paper which was the result
of the announcement. The getting
out of such a raagniflcient paper In
volved many days of hard work, and
the result should be a source of
much pride to Mr. Caldwell and every
employee of the paper who contrl- i
bntPd to the Issue.

It is unfortunate that differences j
should exist at this time among the
members of the Farmers’ Union ofj
the State. If there ever was a time
•when the farmers should present a
united front, It Is now. They have
the fight of their lives on hand at
this time, and If they are defeated It
will #ipple them for years. They
are not only lighting for financial
gain but they are fighting for a prin
ciple just ns their fathers fought for
from 1861 to 1865. Their fathers
fought with arms; the farmers of to
day are fighting with their wits and
they are fighting an enemy who la
far more relentless and determined
than were the soldiers who wore the
blue. It is a humiliating admission
to make, hut it is a fact that the sons
of some of the veterans who fought
on the side of the South in 1861-’65
are in Wall street now in the fore
front of the battle armed and equip-
fcd fighting their brothers of the
South with far more intensity than
the blue clad soldier fought those of
the South who wore the gray.
The Southern men in Wall street
who are aligned against the farmer
ba his fight for liberty and indepen
dence should be ranked with Bene
dict Arnold because, he, like them, be
trayed his country for money. Ar
nold lived and died despised of all
good men, and this fate would not be
too severe for the traitors referred
to here.

GAFFNEY DRUG CO.
TO RENT OR TO BUY
A Gaffney man said a few days ago, “I’d
like to buy a home of ray own, but I can’t
afford it.” He was mistaken. Any man
who can afford to pay rent can afford to buy
a home if he will take advantage of the
Peoples B. & L. Plan
and lie can buy just as good a home as he
can rent. The only diffjprence is he buys for
himself instead of his landlord. Start today
by taking stock and filing your application.
