Recent Grewsome Experience of a Chicago
Man Is Sample of a Series of
Such Cases
During L. T. Coopers recent visit to
Chicago, where his new preparation
and theory created the usual sensation,
many hundreds of people brought
enormous Internal parasites to the
young man, which had left the system
after taking his medicine.
Among these people was Mr. Emil
Winkler, who brought to Cooper a
tapeworm that proved to be over
ninety feet in length. Mr. Winkler,
who resides at 182 East Ohio Street,
Chicago, had this to Say of his expe
rience: "For five years I have been
more or less complaining. I have had
severe headaches, and any food that I
would eat would nauseate me. I would
have bad dreams almost every night;
dizzy spells would compel me to quit
work. Black spots would appear be
fore my eyes when stooping over and
rising quickly. I would feel tired most
of the time; In fact, I had no life in
me to speak of for the last five years.
I tried various treatments, and one
physician In St Louis was recom
mended to me, and I was under his
treatment some time, but as usual I
obtained no relief.
"So many people asked me to try
Cooper’s preparation that I decided
to do so, and after using It for a few
days, this awful thing passed from my
system. 1 feel much better already,
and I want to say right here that I
thank Mr. Cooper a hundred times for
what his medicine has done for me. I
would not take $5,000 and have that
thing back in my system again."

experience of many during Cooper's
stay in Chicago, and this no doubt
helped to account for the enormous

HISTORICAL ADDRESS-

natural resources to the highest de
gree of perfection. Scotch woolen
goods are unsurpassed by those of
any other country, and the Scotch
and the Scotch-Iriah In Ireland have
set the standard of the world in the
manufacture of linens. The iron and
steel industry of Scotland, founded
at an early date, has been highly de
veloped. Ship building has thrived
in Scotland since the time of The
Bruce, and, in the present day, the
highest development of Scotch Indus
try is found in the shipyards on the
Clyde, and the Scotch-Irish shipyards
at Belfast. From these yards have
come a great part of the merchant
and war fleets of Britain, and, in the
Luistania, they have their crowning
achievement. In America the Scotch
and the Scotch-Irish have a wider
field for the development of indus
trial leadership. All the world knows
what Andrew Carnegie and his asso-
eiates, largely Scotchmen and men of
Scotch descent, achieved in the build
ing up of the iron and steel industry
about Pittsburg, and Alexander Gra
ham Bell, the inventor of the tele
phone, is a man of Scotch ancestry.
Not even the briefest review of
Scotch achievement would be com
plete without some reference to the
financial genius of the race which
produced William Paterson, the found
er of the Bank of England. The
banking system of Scotland has main
tained an enviable reputation for
soundness, and is pointed to today by
some of the advocates of banking
and currency reform as the model
upon which the system of this coun
try should be based, and I have no
doubt that the high reputation of the
banks of Charleston is due, in no
small measure, to influences in their
management attributable to the men
of Scotch ancestry who have from
time to time been members of this
society. The fiscal system of our
government was devised by a man of
Scotch descent—Alexander Hamilton
—and it stands today, with few modi
fications, as a monument to his gen
ius. Not only in fiscal affairs, but in
shaping the entire policy of our gov
ernment and in molding the charac
ter of its institutions, have men of
Scotish blood been influential. No
less than eight of our presidents have
been of Scotch or Scotch-Irish de
scent. The list includes Monroe,
Jackson, Poll:-, Buchanan, Grant,
Hayes, Arthur, and McKinley.
The strains of Scotch and Scotch-
Irish blood which came into our coun
try in colonial days, and which have
since been enriched by fresh acces
sions, have leavened our whole popu
lation with the spirit of the Scots
who fought with Wallace and with
Bruce, Ever champions of individu
al liberty, they have been firm up
holders of an orderly government in
the spirit of those lines by Burns:
"The wretch that wad a tyrant own,
And tl}e wretch, his true-born
brother,
Who would set the mob aboon the
throne,
Mfcy they be damned together."
In no locality has the Scotch in
fluence been more potent than In the
Carollnaa, and especially In the city
of Charleston, where, to a greater
degree than in any other American
city, has been preserved, in its popu
lation, and Its city life, the character
and spirit of the early days of the
republic. A citizenship of this char
acter can be depended upon to make
the most of its opportunities, and to
work harmoniously with all agencies
contributing td civlo advancement In
the spirit of "a good understanding
and acquaintance” for the building
up of a greater Charleston, in which
the St. Andrew’s Society shall ever
be a center where “men of honor and
integrity of what nation, degree or
profession soever” shall be drawn to
gether, and from which its light shall
"spread its beams with more diffusive
gladness over a wider and wider
circle.”
At the Sta r Theatre.

The female portion of the company
was selected for their ability to sing
and dance; each one of them has a
voice that hag been carefully trained
and the dancing numbers executed by
them are both graceful and bewilder
ing. Nothing old or hackened with

parade from the theatre at noon by
the entire company headed by Prof.
Pope’s military band.

the town Democratic primary elec
tion, a mass meeting of the Demo
crats of Gaffney is called to meet at
the court house at 7:30 p. m., on
Tuesday, December 10, 1907, for the
purpose of ordering a primary elec
tion, at such time as the Democratic
party may decide, to nominate a can
didate for Mayor and one candidate
for Alderman for each of the six (6)
wards in the town. Also to amend
the rules governing the primary, If
necessary; to elect a chairman and
secretary, and one member of the
executive committee for each ward;
and transact such business as may
properly come before the meeting.
