reaches far beyond governor- and
judges in the pre.-ent day. There are
men in ollire who would not :t*- -ept a

ward. I have known even ministers
who shrank from denouncing certain
sins from Hi*- pulpit for fear they
should offend their Influential hearers.
Modern Instances.
FcJix trembled f**r his political pros
pect-. We all despise the hedger, the
trimmer, the man who Is not willing
bravely to dofy the powers that he and
denounce ami rectify a wrong, no mat
ter where In* may find It. Just read the
last verse of this chapter of Acts. What
do you find there? We find that Gov
ernor Felix kept Paul in jail for two
long years for unjust cause. He kept
him there like the French government
held t'aptain Dreyfus on Devil’s island.
Then, when the new gm ernor was ap
pointed. he ham led over Paul a prison
er to hit;. Why? The Bible tells us;
"Ami I’elix. t*» -how the Jews a pleas
ure. left Paul hound." "Ah.” I can
hear that cowardly political governor
say. "those Jews have a large political
influence. I must not do anything io
make them angry with me. Therefore
( will keep Paul in Jail and hand him

render the interests of Massachusetts
wealth and position should he his. The
