The two months-old baby girl of Mr.
L. J. S. Carpenter died Tuesday af
ter a short illness. The remains of
the little one were shipped to Besse
mer City Wednesday, and taken to
the country for burial.
Miss Katherine Boulware, of Vir
ginia. was among the fair guests at
Limestone during the commencement
exercises. She returned to her Vir-

The week wan clear up to Satur
day with about 95 per cent, of the
possible sunshine during this |}me;
the last two days were cloudy. The
excessive sunshine was highly bene
ficial.
The weather was cooler than
usual during the fore part of the
week and was slightly warmer during
the fore part of the week and was

The weekly mean temperature was

normal in all sections. The highest
temperature was 85 degrees at
Blacbvilie on the 25th, the lowest
was 41 degrees at Dillon on the 22nd.
With the exception of very light
showers in the extreme western part
of the State on Monday, there was

day when frequent showers occur
red. The rainfall was heaviest In
the Savannah valley counties, where
it was above normal. The precipi-

Has passed Away.
Blacksburg, May 28.—After a linger
ing illness of months. Mr. J. R. Heal-
, an, one of th" most prominent men
j of this town, died last week and was
M ! buried Saturday afternoon. For the
MI past seven years he had been post-
M i master and had served In many other
official positions, leaving a record of
faithfulness, honesty and loyalty; a
citizens respected by all, a devouted
husband and father and one who en
deared himself to all who knew him.
He was hurled from the Methodist
church, of which he was a devout
member and for seven years superin
tendent of Sunday school. A beautiful
and touching sermon was preached
bv the Rev. C. C. Derrick, after which
the Masonic fraternity took charge,
the Blue Lodge of this place, and
Spartanburg Commandary of Knights
Templar, who conducted the body to
the cemetery, where the Interment
was made.
A large Masonic representation was
present. The floral offerings were
numerous and beautiful. The de
ceased leaves a widow, two daught
ers, Mrs. W. A. King, of Greenville,
and Miss Edna Healan and William
Healan; two brothers and two sisters.
