One of the most elaborate and beautiful entertainments ever at tempted in Gaffney will be nresented at the Star Theatre Monday night, Anrll 8. for the benefit of the nublic library. “Enchantment." a fairyland snectaclj. is to be the play, and It will be given with a great throng of Gaffney boys and girls of all ages in the cast, under the direction of Mr. John E. Owens, of New York, who is the author of the spectacle. “Enchantment" comes here with the prestige of being the finest luvi- nile entn-iiainnent now before the r> ublic. The music is bright and tuneful, the slory entertaining to a degree, the costumes beautiful, and the groupings and marches pictures- err There will be fairies, butterflies, flower girls, royal guards, gnomes of the forest, etc., in the big chorus, aside from the cast of principals. “Enchanment" has been presented In the largest cities of the country with the greatest success and will be given in Charleston In May with on<» thousand participants. The rehersals are now in pro gress and take place every afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Star Theatre. True to South Carolina. With the failure of so many “at mosphere” plays In evidence, the success of “The Clansman” becomes the more remarkable. No one gain says the fact that the author has caught the true spirit of the South Carolina hill country, its neonle of mixed Scotch-Irlsh lineage. Its ro mantic associations, and its period of turmoil and stress Immediately following the Civil war. Indeed, ‘The Clansman" is based on the bedrock of hi-itorical conditions as they existed in Piedmont, S. C.. In 1867. In a wider scene, it is typical of the whole South, for the farce of negro domination and the tragedy of racial conflict were similarly enact ed In every hamlet and city. The purpose of “The Clansman” Is not to revive the passions but to show the lessons of that unhappy period.
