In the matter of voting bonds there
is a misconception. Some people
think if the bonds for the graded
school are voted that it means'that
we cannot later on vote bonds for
sewerage, extension of water works
and electric lights. Such an idea is
erroneous. One bond is school dis
trict bonds and the other is munici
pal tionds. the difference being that
*11 the people in the school district
rote on the school bonds, whib* only
those residing in the incorporated
limits of the city vote on the muni-
eJ- *M bonds. We can well afford to
have both, and county bonds for good , roof garde:
roads in addition. The truth is that :
wo will make monev bv issuing these
bonds. The great enhancement of!
property will more than pay the in-1
. terest on the bonds. The Ledger
believes in improvement. It not !

of Elmira, one of the national lecturers
of the Woman's Christian Temperance
union. Mrs. Bullock had armed herself
with a bottle of Jamaica ginger bought
at a nearby drug store, sjgys the New
York Tribune, and she began her talk
by putting a teaspoonful of it into a
saucer.
“An alcoholic beverage won’t burn.”
she explained, ‘•unless It contains more
than "SJ per cent of alcohol.”
Then she touched a match to tbe
fluid in the saucer, and it straightway
took fire and burned till there was
nothing left but a brown stain.
“Yet white riblion women give this
to their children under the impression
that It is the same thing as ginger tea,”
commenced Mrs. Bullock. “And the
alcohol isn’t even pure. It Is adulter
ated In niauy cases with wood alcohol.
“1 know a Quaker lady,” Mrs. Bul
lock continued, “who had a man work
ing for her, and every afternoon about

A New Metal.
A new metal called moinel, which is
expected to cause something of a stir
in the industrial world, is being pro
duced at the works of the Canadian
Copper company ’at Sudbury. Out.,
says the Arnei-lcan Metal Worker. It
consists of a compound of copper,
nickel, jron and one or two other min
erals which are found in the district,
and its importance lies in the fact that
it 1® much less costly than nickel, is
less liable to rust and will serve all
the purposes that are served by that
metal in tbe industrial world. Tbe
new metal is said to be of equal duc
tile strength with nickel and to possess
all Its other essential qualities, but it
Is not claimed that It would serve the
purpose of nickel steel, which Is used
