M Senator Grif fin had been present he would have voted “nay” and Senator Christensen I would have voted “yea.” Senator ; McKeithan was paired with Senator Townsend. Had Mr. Townsend been present he would h:ne voted “nay” and Senator McKeithan would have voted “yea.” Senator Bass who has been 111 at his home in Williamsburg, was not present Had he been present he j would have voted “aye.” The real strength of the senate, counting the pairs and absentees, would have been .aye 24. nay 17, a majority of seven against the State dispensary. j One of the senators who has work- | ed tirelessly for local option , and ! against the State dispensary machine I said last night that he had be.en told 18 months ago by wise men that the task was impossible; 18 months from now they will wonder why they ever tolerated it. The death of the dispensary is as sured. The senate’s majority may b reduced when the blll^omes un for third reading, hut the bill will | pass. Some think there will be an even larger majority to its credit. Senator Townsend was not present yesterday, but, on the presumption that he opposed the bill, his friends secured a pair with Senator McKeith an. It is believed that Senator Town send will support the amended bill Monday. The two houses have now passed the bill.
