Last winter, 1900, this chapter in
augurated a movement which had for
its object the honoring the memory
of John C. Calhoun by placing his
statue among his compeers in the
Statuary Hall of the Capitol at Wash

No South Carolinian ever
those statelv statues, erected

the most conspicuous and influential

The proposition to construct, a
bride on top of the dam of the Elec

panv at Gaston Shoals strikes us as
b ing one of the best things ever
proposed for the county. Of course
ire not going to please everybody to
build a bridge at that point, but it
will please a great many, it will add
to the beauty and picturesqueness of
the surroudings and will be money
well spent. We believe in develop

be satisfied. Go "head and develop
as fast as the circumstances will war

The people of Cherokee county who
have not visited the spot where the
Dravo Contracting Company is con

have no conception of the immense
work being carried on. We some-

what is going on about them. How
many of our readers have never seen
the wonderful machinery of our cot

manv have never seen the inside of
the Cherokee Foundry and Machine

many have never visited either of our
pretty banks? How many have never
soen the inside of a printing office
and had described to them the intri
cate linotype machine, witnessed the
one.rations of the press that carries
its gladsome message to the oeople
with clock-like regularity? Some of
the enterprises mentioned above may
not hold out cordial invitations to
visitors, but to see these things is
to become educated. The Ledger al

HOME-MADE CATARRH CURE.
Any one can mix right at home th»
best remedy of its kind known. The
name "Cyci me” is given to the fol
lowing prescription, it is supnosed,
because of its promptness in driving
from the blood and system every ves
tige of catarrhal poison, relieveing
this foul and dread disease no matter

ture: Get from any good pharmacy
one-half ounce Fliud Extract Dande
