Marriage of a Popular Gaffney Man to a Darlington Girl. Mr. I^awrence Wood, of Gaffney, and Miss Irene Lockwood, of Darling ton. were married yesterday at Dar lington. They are expected to arrive in Gaffnev the latter part of the week and spend a few days • with Mr. Wood's father and will then go on to West Virginia, where Mr. Wood Is en^iged in rai'road constructl; i. Lawrence Wood is the son of Mr. Moses Wood. He was reared in Gaff ney and hunt the world over and you couldn't find a more manly, whole- souled. generous fellow. He possesses buniness qualifications that are des tined to make him a man of affairs. Miss Lockwood is well known in Gaffney. It was while she was at tending Limestone Co lege that she met the man who eventually won her heart and hand. She is charming in face and figure and gracious in man ner. She was a favorite at school and with all who knew her. That she is a lad,- of good judgment is amp y justified in her choice of a husband. The Ledger joins in congratulations uni good wishes to these young peo ple. ANOTHER RAID. A King's Creek Still Destroyed by the Officers. Tuesday night Deputy United Statis Marshall D. F. Phillips, accompanied by .1. IV Ml ier. Moss Hayes, Robert Gland and Mr. Webb, went ov r to lilact shurg on No. 10, and started afoot to the dark corner of Cherokee. On a little stream which empti s into King's Creek, abour three fourths of a mile from the York county line they iocat d a still early Wednesday morning and proceed to destroy it. When the officers arrived there was no one about the still. It was evident that Hi filockaders were preparing to move or quit business for the bad weal her. as, in the 'aiiguagc, of the distillers, they wore "running out the ferments." The sti.l was 33 inches long in the clear and 23 inches in diameter . The still was destroyed, and everything in sight was burned up. Mr. Phillips return'd to the city Wednesday on No. 11 with a portion of the still. A Small Blaze. Mrs. C. S. Harvey, while busy about her household duties Wednesday was attracted by smoke issuing from the closet. On examination disc osed the fact that the wood work of the closet was on fire and that a large quantity of clothing had been destroyed. Mrs. Harvey had only rec ntly finished a lot of clothing for herself and child ren and these were also burned. Nearly all the clothing of the entire family was so bad y burned as to make it practically useless. It is pre sumed th*»t the flr> was started by rats carrying matches For the Orphans. The First Baptist Sunday school will have an offering next Sal bath morning for the orphans. Each scholar Is requested to bring app.es, potatoes, oranges or nuts and as manv as they can. They will be re ceived in the vestibules of the church and a committee will ship them on Monday. Parents are requested to encourage tho'r children in the effort to make others happy . The members of the church are r quested to bring to the morning or evening service a money offering for th orphans. Buford St. Methodist Church Notes. FORT, “King of the Soil” A New Company Being Organized. Mr. J. L Daniels has patented a machine to utilize the ootton stalk by grinding it and making a fibre out of the bark and a pulp fop making paper out of the inside. Mr. Daniels plans are perfectly practicable and he is now engaged in organizing a stock- company to build these ma chines and place them on the market He proposes to start with $5,000 cap Ital. This will be increased when the absolute practicability of the ma chine is demonstrated. Mr Daniel is meeting with splendid success In the so icitation of stock. This moans a great deal for the cotton grower and especially Gaffney. Death of an Infant. The infant, daughter of Mr and Mrs. James Coyle died last Tuesday | night; aged five or six' weeks. The interment took place Wednesday at j El Bethel.
