It. appears to us that iliis special
term of court Idea is the proper
thing. It would be some satisfaction
to know there was no delay in pun
ishing the man whose heart was so
black as to commit such a crime as
that of Tuesday.

We are pained to note the demise
of ‘Editor Paul Price, of Columbia.
We did not always agree with him.
We have very many times thought
him wrong. Put ho was a man of
conviction, an honest man. and he
dared write what he believed to lie
right, whether it struck the popular
cord or not. All honor to his memory.
The State of South Carolina is the
richer for his having lived and the
poorer because of his going away.

We again call the attention of our

We confess mortification at the
bloody record of Tuesday a.nd Wed
nesday. With no dispensary in the
county we have been bragging about
our goodness no little and now com* s
the bloodiest record in our history
and our own beloved Cherokee is the
scene of the most diabolical crime
ever committed in the State. Some
times it makes us sick at heart and
we despair that the people will ever
he rid of criminals. Put let us take
on new hope, remembering that it Is
only the vicious and ungodly who
commit such wanton crime, and strive
r much harder to sot a good exam-
p 1 and to teacli our fellowman that
such deeds are wrong and that He
who rules above will mete out jus
tice to wayward humanity.

Keoently we have offended (unln
tenionally. of course) two persons,
Mr. Prooks Martin and Mr. G. W.
Bowman, because we publish’d a
•lews item concerning each of them.
Mr. Martin makes claim that iie acted
through ignorance. Mr. Bowman says
we should have investigated his con
cern before saying what we did. We
wish to assure both these men that
we have no purpose to misrepresent
them. Our infor nation was secured
from a proper source, and while we
are aware that it does not present
their side of tin* case, still it is the
truthful side and we have nothing to
retract The anicl s in question
simply related facts, potent facts,
concerning these two men. They
were matters of news and we handled
them just as w>> would any other news
item. If they desire to make state
ments we accord them the use of our
columns for that purnosc. the only
thing we ask is that they do not take
advantage of this offer to advertise
their business. These two eases are
distinctly separate, have no c itinect-
non whatever, save that both m 11
complain that we have not been alto
gether fair to them.

He Cursed His Gallantry.
A corpulent man with a red face
w nt to Coney Island on Sunday
from the Putli Peach section of
Brooklyn, says the New York Sun,
and sat in a cross seat of an open 1
car in front of tw'o stout German I
women. In searching for a niekle to
Pay Ills fare, the stout man dropped \
a quarter, which rolled almost under
ihe dress of one of the women. He |
realized that he might make a spec
tacle ol himseli and also might offend :
the woman if he attempted to pick i
up the quarter, so he decided to wait j
until she and her fri nd got out, I
mean while taking an oceasinol glance I
at the coin. The women found them |
selves at their station unexpectedly, I
and in their htirrv to get out one
knocked her handkerchief, which j
was weighed with soineihing, 011 the
bach of the man’s seat. A corner of
the handkerchief dropped, letting
out. a shower of jingiling silver. The
owner kneeled and began collecting |
the coin, while her friend urged her
to hurry. The man gave a sigh of
relief after the woman got up with
out having noticed his quarter. Just
then, however, the other woman, ob
served it, and said: "Katrine, you
haf not all clot schange got. I^ook,
dere vas a kewarter.” Katrine, with
an effort, stopped and picked up the
quarter, and she and her friend rush
ed out of the car. The stout man,
whq saw the futility of protest under
the peculiar circumstances, cursed
his gallantry and his embonpoint.

—That’s what a prominent

i m i 1 a r expressions are

infancy to old age Scott’s
iCm ul si on offers a reliable
means of remedying im
proper and weak develop
ment, restoring lost flesh
and vitality, and repairing
waste. The action of
Scott’s Emulsion is no
more of a secret than the
composition of the Emul

it does through nourish
ment—the kind of nourish
ment that cannot be ob
tained in ordinary food.

from it.
