An Early Snow.
Early Wednesday morning the
guage of the weather reporter showed
a temperature of twenty degrees, the
coldest on record for this season of
the year About one o’clock snow be
gan falling and continued throughout
the afternoon and evening. About
! three inches was the total fall. The
| ground was covered with a mantel of
I white. The children were full of glee
and even the old folks began t»' feel
young, for almost every passing hu
man was the recipiant of a snow ball.
The temperature began to rise yester
day morning and the snow melted
rapidly, but good patches of it can

The Law of Retaliation.
On October Hth the house of a ne
gro of this county, named Lum Ellis,
! was burned. On lust Thursday the
j house of William Smith, another no

' one of Gum's children with burning
i is house and now William is in jail
charged with burning Gum’s house.
Evidently Gum has adopted the doc
trine of retaliation.
Wm. Smith, who " as chared with
burning the house of Gum Ellis, was
discharged Tuesday by the magls-
irate at a pre iminary examination.
