Mrs. W. C. IJpseomb was the victim
of a decidedly painful, if not severe,
accident on Friday while driving hack
to the city from Blacksburg. A shaft
on ’he huggv breaking frightened the
horse and Mrs. Lipscomb was thrown
out. sustaining several bruises.
The excitement in the city caused
by the parade of the minstrel show
was heightened by a horse hitched
to a hack suddenly becoming fright
ened by the tents of a street show
and running. The harness broke
and the occupants of the vehicle es
caped. No injuries resulted from
the escape of the horse.
Limestone street was thronged on
Friday evening by a crowd that surg
ed around a point where interest
seemed to be centered. The excite
ment was caused bv a horse which
had become frightened and contrary
to the course usually pursued by most
hoises in this state, had flung itself
:o tb« ground between the shafts in
stead of running away. He was un
hitched safelv and no damage was
sustained.
Voechel and Nolen’s Dandy Dixie
Minstrels appeared at the Sta»- Thea
tre on Saturday evening. This event
had been heralded for some time and
great interest was manifested, espec
ially among the colored people of the
city A good house greeted the per
formers on the rise of the curtain.
The balcony was taxed to its capacity
to accomodate the crowd. The show
was a good one. with several feat
ures worthy of mention. The wire
walking of Mack Allen and the acro
batic ’--rk of the Tony Trio was up
to anv seen in this city. The singing
and dancing of the entire trouoe was
good, with excellent music furnished
by a good orchestra.

•The first case called was two white

were instructed to arrest h'm.
The next case was that of two ne
groes. charged with fighting, in which
a bottle occurred. A bottle was
thrown by one of the negroes, which,
however, went wild of the mark .and
struck a bystander. They were fined
$5.00 each or ten days for the cRy in
