STYLES AT SARATOGA.
Cottage Life Increasina; Afternoon
Driving.
Saratoga bids fair to be itself again
this season, and gay groups are .gath
ering on verandahs, listening to
charming music, and young and old
are ready for the flirtations which are
an epidemic in this celebrated resort.
F.inen is the wear par excellence of
half the fashionables one meets, and
it may take the form of the simplest
little pony coat and skirt, or he built
of linen fine as gossamer, and em
broidered all over like frost work and
set with lace until it represents the
value of an ordinary woman’s whole
year’s dress allowance.
Linen Coats and Wraps.
The extra coat of linen and little
fancy capes of linen and lace, or coats
of all over lace with linen trim
mings are in evidence everywhere
that fashionables assemble; at the
lake, or at afternoon teas at the cot
tages,-as well as on the hotel piazzas
Hats For Girl and Matron.
Flower trimmed hats of leghorn or
fine straw are first choice with young
girls, while older women wear hats
trimmed with aigrettes to a consider
able extent. Embroidered linen hats
are the newest arrival and suitable
for anv and everybody. The use of
blae]< velvet ribbon on such hats is a
confirmation of the comin populari
ty of black velvet ribbon. A beautiful
leghorn worn bv a lovely blonde, had
a brim folded against the crown, with
a full draping and Huffy bow of the
blue tulle, with two handsome blue
Iostrich plumes of white waving above
and below the brim. Lilacs are fash
ionable. but violets have disappeared
completely. Soft made plumage of
white or pale yellow is a favorite
garniture and tulle continues to be
| worn in hat trimmings and Huffy neck
I ruches.
For Utility Gowns.
For gowns that go to all sorts of
places, “Mill or Meeting” nothing is
better than blue voile with silk trim-

The State of South Carolina is sending off the
approximate annual amount of $3,000,000 in Life
Insurance Premiums. That amount, less a small
proportion, goes to the North and West each year
for investment, and in twenty years; including
interest, will amount to something like
$100,000,000.00
Tins should not he. Keep your premiums
at home for the development of your own

Tailored linens often have the long

Editor Ledger:—“Voter” is evident
ly acting as wet nurse for some petty
grudge he has when he intimates that
tho execut* > committee has pets that
it would like to further the object
of by changing the
from Wilkinsville to
I Certainly it is not the case so far as
am concerned and I see no reason
hr it should be with other members
>f that bodv.
I 'fi st selected Wilkinsville (Whiso-
lunt’s store) as the place of meeting
I for the campaign. But Chairman J. B.
Bell thinking perhaps that the water
supply was inadequate, changed it to
Hughes’ Spring.
Messrs. Wbisonant and Hugh s are
both gentlemen and my friepds so
far as I know, and i have no prefer
ence between them or their places
tl tt I am conscious of. I did want,
still want and expect to see all par-
ties satisfied.
Mr. Wbisonant would like to show
his oi] mill plant and Mr. Hughes his
mineral springs—something com
mendable in each of them.
The meeting at Wilkinsville was to
be a picnic and Mr. Hughes says he
only wants his barbecue to nay actual
expenses.
As things have turned out we will
have both the picnic and barbecue
and give the candidates and all others,
as Dick Harris would say. “A Sal
Parker time,” and everybody will be
friendlv and everything lovely, we
hope.
If “Voter” shows one thing more
than another it is his picayunishness,
and I have neither time nor inclina
tion to notice him further. Remem
bering the old axlum:
Fools names are like their faces,—
Too often seen in public places.
