We note with genuine pleasure 'he
improvement in the Chester Reporter
under the direction of Messrs. Perk
ins & Irwin. We had a warm spot in
our heart for Mr. Bdctuiian and re
gret to see him leave the field, which
he has so long honored. We trust
the new proprietors of Th; Reporter
will meet with the success their ef
forts deserve.

We are thoroughly disgust-d with
Senator Tillman’* advoC:.'-> u£ the
dispensary and hi-s unreasonable and
♦d l>e necessary, and progressive Oafl-
ney is ready to take the step. The
t^»<)ger facetiously remarks that more
water must be obtalribd for fear that
the w iter works will catch fire and
hurn up. This would Indicate that the
artestein well is a rather drv affair;
hut if this be true it is hardly to be
suopoaed that our Gaffney friends
would try the artesian scheme again so
soon, unless a sufficient stream and
watershed were out of the question.
—■Gastonia Gazette.
It is very evident that we were
not careful to make matters Plain to
outsiders when so intelligent a per
sonage as Brother Marshall falls to
graso our meaning. Mr. Marshall,
however, has slipped a cog In regard
to Gaffney’s artesian wells. This is
the third well for Gaffney and we
think so much of artesian water that
the city council has purchased a well-
digger—say, old boy, that’s a machine,
not a man—so that hereafter we may
dl" as many wells as we may need
and as fast as we may need them.
The wells heretofore dug, in a slang
vernacular, are all to the good.

In the dark by seeing to it that we did

Saturday we received a marked copy
of The Spartan. It was evidently

what The Spart.mu said.
Ed. DeCamp has cut out the dozen
