With Hopper Invincible, Gaffney Wins
From Spartanburg.
Gaffnev and Spartanburg met at
I Jefferies’ Pari' on Tuesday afternoon
with the largest attendance of the
season out to witness the game. The
I crowd was atf enthusiastic one. cheer-
| ing both teams on several occassions.
I Hopper was pitchin for Gaffney and
this well-known southpaw never
twirled in better form. The best hit-
| ters Spartanburg could bring forth
could do nothing with him. he strik
ing ont sixteen men and yielding four
hits. None of these were bunched
Tand Spartanburg's one run was made
on an infield error. The feature of
i I the game* from a Gaffney standpoint,
was the work of Hopper and Hamrick,
while the stars for Spartanburg were

The Fourth at Limestone.
Wednesdav will not he an ordinary
day. Far from it. Wednesday is the
Fourth of July and will be observed
fittingly by loyal and patriotic citi
zens of this entire community. These
will doubtless lie assisted by numbers
from other cities, who will commence
arriving in the city possibly a day or
two in advance to join in the festivi
ties of the day.
The motto of the day is announced
as "Let joy b<? unconfined.
Those holding priviliges for refresh
ment stands are busily engaged in
naking preparations for the dispens
ing of ice cold an r1 red hot refresh-
.nents, which are described very force-
ntlly, it not elegantly, by the accom
plished spielers for the various stands.
Many are anticipating with great
pleasure the address by the Hon. Jos.
MeCollough, of Greenville, while others
wait with delight for the athletic
events. The baseball game between
Rock Hill and Gaffney promises to be
a fast exhibition. Both teams are
•ast aggregations and the fight on the
fourth will be on ■ to the finish. All
indications point vq an immense crowd
witnesing the events.

Richardson-Clarkson.
The marriage of two of the most
popular young people of the city oc
curred on Tuesday afternoon, when
Mr. Thomas B. Clarkson and Miss Nan
nie Cora Richardson were united in
marriage. The ceremony was per
formed at the home of the bride’s
parents, Capt. and Mrs. W. H. Richard
son. on Victoria avenue. Rev. N. B.
Clarkson, father of the groom, per
forming the ceremony.
The marriage was a very quiet one.
The members of the Question Club, of
which Miss Richardson was a loyal
member, and relatives of the contract
ing parties were the onlv ones present.
Mr. Clarkson is a well-known young
business man of the city, being asso
ciated with the Gaffney Hardware Co.
Miss Richardson is a young lady of
ease, grace and beauty. The numer
ous friends of these young people
wish them all happiness. Thev left
immediatelv after the ceremony for
northern cities, where they will spend
some time before returning to this
city to make their home.
Pleasing Social Event.
Miss J^oulie Potter’s eight o’cloc 1 '
tea Tuesdav evening in honor of her
two charming guests. Misses Gertrude
Williams and Mary Etta Perry, of
Gainesville. Ga., was one of the most
beautiful affairs of the week. The
reception hall and parlor were exqui
sitely decorated with cut flowers,
palms and ferns. In the dining room
covers were laid for twelve. The
snowy damask was covered with
I dainty centerpieces filled with fra-
S grant roses. Miss Potter thoroughly
understands the art of entertaining
i and the evening was a delightful one.
