Butler & Osborne have filed suit for $50,000 in behalf of Charles Baber, who is administrator of the estate of John Ambrose Cain, the young brake- man of Virginia, who was killed in the wreck recently between Gaffney and Blacksburg, when the run away freight cars crashed into a north bound freight and killed three train men. Brakeman Cain with another trainman. Fireman Loper. was buried beneath the engine and wreckage of cars and their bodies were not recovered from the de bris for nearly two days. This is the largest verdict asked for in a suit in Cherokee county, but Col. T. B. Butler, of Butler & Osborne, while in conver sation with a Ledger reporter, stated that while it was large, he did not con sider it excessive, as Mrs. Dorothy] Brickman, whose husband was killed in a wreck in York county while he was engineer of a train, received a verdict of $l0,00d and that when the case was appealed to the supreme court it was allowed to stand. Death of a Young Man. A peculiarly sad death occurred in this county Sunday when Mr. George Hughes passed .away at his home near Antioch. Mr. Hughes was a young man only about twenty-five years of age and leave a wife and one child. The deafh is made sadder by the fact that the union was of only fifteen months. He was a young and pros perous farmer, and the community in general is shocked by his death. He was a brother of Mr. C. J. Hughes, who was shot recently. The funeral services were preached at Antioch Church on Monday by Rev. J. D. Bailey, of Cowpens, former pastor of the church of which the young man was a member. The devoted nastor paid loving tribute to the memory of his deceased member. First Baptist Church Notes.
