W. J. WILKINS & CO.
GAFFNEY’S LEADING MERCHANTS
Dry Goods, liinery, doing, Hots, Shoes, Groceries, Etc.
A N INDUSTRIAL EDITION of any newspaper essaying to acquaint the public with facts concerning Growing Gaffney would be
woefully incompetent did it not contain an exhaustive description of this long established house. The name of Wilkins in
Cherokee County is household. For twenty years they have been catering to the people, and their one object all this time has been
to give value received--100 cents worth on the dollar. They have established a business thatthey should be and doubtless are, proud
of. “Honest Goods at Honest Prices,“ is the motto. No merchant can sell goods at and below cost and succeed. It is not the law of
trade, Wilkins & Co. do not attempt it. They, like all other good merchants, place a fair profit on their goods, guaranteeing good
values for the money, and when you buy of them, you can depend upon it that you have received as good a bargain as anyone can
give you. Sometimes they sell shop-worn goods at cost simply to get rid of them, believing it is better to get cost than to let the goods
rot on the shelves. This is not often, however, for the simple reason that their buyer is careful and conservative, and goods that are
unsaleable are seldom allowed to come into the store.
Dress Goods.
Our Dress Goods Department is replete with all kinds
of Silks. Woolens, Wash Goods, White Goods, etc., at rock
bottom prices. Send a child to our store and you may de-
tpend upon it that it will receive all the consideration of a
giown person.
Trimmings.
Dame Fashion has decreed that almost every garment
t
worn by women must have some kind of trimming. In
Laces we have Vais, Orientals, Baby Irish, etc., at from 5c
to $1.00 per yard. In Embroideries we have all the varied
styles and qualities ranging in prices from 5c to $1.50 per
yard.
Corsets.
We carry the most complete line to be found in Gaffney,
»
embracing as it does, Colton’s Invisible Lacing, something
entirely new, at $1.00; the W. B. Corset, one of the most
reliable, at $1.00; American Beauty, which is hard to beat,
at $r.oo; and the cheaper makes, some of which sell at only
/
25c. These are good for the money, but—
. Hosiery .
Is something that everybody needs more or less of. We
do not mean to be facecious but some people need more
than others. We have it in all grades from the standard
Black Cat brand to that which is so cheap it hardly has a
brand. The Black Cat sell at from 12 1-2 to 25c. We
have hosiery in Gauze, Drop Stitch, White, Black, Tans,
etc., at from 15c to ^oc.
Millinery.
This department is stocked with Good Things, from the
cheapest to the high grade, embracing all styles and varie
ties. Miss Jamison has charge of this department, and she
is especially talented in her line. It isn’t everybody that
possesses the ability to select a becoming hat. If you let
Miss Jamison select one for you you may depend upon it
that it will be becoming and serviceable.
Shoes For Women.
Pretty feet are not possessed by all women, but when in
cased in a Berring, Imperial,. Ultra, Hamilton-Brown, or
even a cheaper make bought of us, the foot at once becomes
a thing of beauty. Our prices on Shoes are always right.
Clothing For Men.
A man drensed in Homespun is often a better man than
the man dressed in Broadcloth.. The cut of the coat is no
index to a man’s heart. To dress in either homespun or
broadcloth is to select one of the extremes. Better wear a
Schloss Bros, well tailored suit. It looks good, wears good,
and is good, while the price is within the reach of all.
Collars and Cuffs
We are unexcelled by any merchant in the country. Pey
ser’s 2100 Linen Collars at 12 1-2 cents and Cuffs at 25
cents per pair wear almost like iron. We also carry a com
plete line of
*
Hats, Shirts and Underwear
Embracing every variety, style and quality, all of which
are offered at prices commensurate with quality.
Men’s Shoes
/
In endless variety. The Douglass Shoe is one of the best
in the world, while the Hamilton-Brown and Selz are
equally as good. The styles are the latest, and the prices
are the lowest. Any size you want. In the fall we will add
the King Quality Shoe to our line.
Our Grocery Department
Is stocked with a full and complete line of staple and
Fancy Groceries. Some merchants make the mistake of
buying groceries too heavily, therefore, the goods become
stale. We avoid this, therefore, our groceries are always
fresh and fit to eat. Don’t overlook the fact that we have
everything needful in Flour, Coffee, Sugar, Meat, Lard,
etc., and remember also that anything you buy of Wilkins
& Co., is ample guarantee of its quality. We are here to
serve you. We want more business; we want your business.
