Excellent Program Rendered at Star
Theatre Thursday Night.
The entertainment given by the
Gaffney Music club last Thursday
night is worthy of something more
than casual mention, as showing the
musical talent existing among our
young people and only waiting the
guiding band of experience to develop
| into a musical whole ot more than av
erage ability. The parents of children
with voices should encourage them to
join the organization, be regular in at
tendance and attentive to the instruct
or, the amount required for member
ship being trivial to the poorest citi
zen a" compared with the result to be
attained. Acquaintance with good mu*
sic is refining, and association with
those who try to attain proficiency,
even in ever so humble a way, makes
of the students better men and worn- ^

£ WITH THE MAYOR 3
A glance at the blotter at the city
court chamber each morning would
show a stranger a marvelous state of
morality in Gaffney, as it nearly al
ways shows a state of blankness that
is good to Iwk at, but from a news
standpoint would tend to be a little
bit distressing. Only two cases have
appeared during the past week and
neither of these has been of any im
portance when compared with the
many bold robberies and other great

Many people In Cherokee are inter
ested in the success of the Piedmont
High School at Lawndale. N. C., lie-
cause of the fact that some of our
boys and girls are being educated
there. The commencement exercises
occurred There several weeks ago.
The program was a very interesting
one indeed, but the most important
item in the report, as nublished in the
Cleveland Star, was as follows;
This ended the exercises proper.
However. Prof. Burns made a fine ad-
dr ss. followed by M.aj. Schenck,
both presenting the needs of the
school, and in less than 20 minutes
$i,690 was raised toward the erection
of a iv'W building ’o cost, from $2,500
to $:?.Ooo. uhI which will lie completed
in time for the fall session, and equip
ped with electric lights and water
works.
Our object ’in printing this para
graph is to show that interest in eJu-
cationr ’ matters is not on the decline.
The salvation of a community lies in
the desire of the people to become
educated and we note with profound
pleasure anything that tends toward
that end.
