I hereby announce hyself as a can
cancddate may be defeated, but that
i.s apparently a small matter. A de- !
feat in one campaign only paves the j
way for greater deeds of conquest in
the next. Records are made that can '
never be olotted out, no matter how
many defeats are incurred, i&ci* j
successive deft at makes more ac-j
quaiutances, whether or no they prove |
loyal supporters. These acquaintances
are excellent additions to a politician’s !
armour, and, whether they ever prove
friends in need or not, can never be
determined. Indications all point to '
an exciting race in Cherokee. I will |
not at this time attemp- to discuss
•any individual candidate, as many
have announced and numbers are still
on the fence, so far as having made
a decision as to whether they yearn
anxiously for the coveted position or
not. The announcements of those in
the race so far speak lor themselves, |
and those still to enter will, of course,
have announcements that, will have
equal power of speech for ih can- i
didates they represent; lienee ’twould
b- a waste to dilate on the individual
eandidates so early in the game, when
nothing like a definite line can be had
on the situation. The Ledger, al-
wavs anxious to have the latest In
the wav of newsy matter in any
branch, will doubtless send a staff
represent?five with the gav cam
paigners /ho will report, their pranks
and doings through the columns of
this paper, endeavoring to present all
authentic developments at once and 1
accurately. In the meantime, as the
.prospective race grows warmer. It
may be appropriate to use this col
umn to call attention to anything

A I.title Further On.
Just a little farther on waits a wondrous
April dawn,
When tie- boughs will break in blossoms i
u.s n flat - is i'ft. d up.
When tii*- pi ass will rise and run with the ;
laughter of the sun
And the sky will seem to pour us vine '
Irom out a magic cup.
And v.e’ll sing because of knowing all the
songs th*- wind is blowing.
A rid tin- earth will be tbe gladder for
the dreary days agon*-.
Then we’ll catch the murmured words in J
the singing of the birds.
When the earth has rolled to spring
time-just a little farther on.
For the good old earth It knows where the
robin and the rose
Walt to set our hearts to leaping for the
beauty of tbe day.
And it knows the necromance of the vio
lets that dance
To the music of the brooklet that once
more is loosed In play.
Ho, the blossom petals drifting in the
breeze forever shifting
And the forests llamlng greener for their
battle with the snows!
Then we ll catch the melodies of the wak
ing honey bees.
For the good old earth Is rolling to the
robin and the rose.
Shut your e>ey, and you may dream of I
the dandelion’s gleam
Where the careless hand of springtime |
has been spilling all its gold.
While the meadow overnight flings aside |
the wintry blight.
And its carpet smooth as velvet is by !
fairy hands unrolled.
Then we'll know the tang and tingle of
the blossom scents that mingle.
And w* 11 taste the Joys of living in
the wondrous April dawn,
For we’re swinging to the wiles of the
singing and the smiles,
To the blessedness of spring! 1ms—Just a
