OUR ANSWER.
In the Pondfield correspondence in
last Friday’s Ledger occurred the fol
lowing paragraph:
“We coutnry peoplp would like for
both the Cherokee News and The
Ledger 10 explain to us why it was
that the-,- were to much more zealous

of the slayer of Bennett and Davison
than thev were in the prosecution of
the slayers of poor Lattimore and

murders that have ever been commit

of the Lattimore murder, to the best
of our recollection, the town of Gaff-
nev did nothing in the world to either
apprehend or bring the murderer to
justice. Please answer, gentlemen.”

local department, which was then un )

Prof. R. O. Sams was the editor at
that time, and made no comment on
the killing. In addition to the report
er's account of the affair The Ledger
published about a column of com
ments from leading citizens on the
affair, and each and even- one con
