Recent Happenings In and Around
the City and Other Events Gather

The recital that has been advertis
ed for tonight at Dimestone College
has been postponed until some date
in the near future. The recital will
be given shortly after the termination
of the meeting now in progress at the
First Baptist church.
The Ladies Missionary Society of
the Buford Street Methodist church,
gave a delightful tea Wednesday af
ternoon in honor of their anniversary
as a society. The event occurred in
the Sunday school room in the pres
ence of an attendance composing the
membership of the society and visit
ing friends of the church. Light re
freshments were served during the
evening.
Dora Thorne was the attraction at
tiie Star Theatre on 'ast Friday even
ing. The company presenting the
ftlav was a strong one and the ner-
formance ’"’as well received by a good
audience. The cast was well balanc
ed. those perhans deserving special
mention being Miss Marion as Dora
Thorne: Mr. Bishop as Ponald Earl:

Thief T. If Lockhart, of the local
police force while in conversation
with a Ledger man Tuesday after
noon remarked that a radical change
in regard to hogs and the manner In
which the.- are kept In the eitv must
go into effect. He went on to say
that the law in refence to hogs is
that they, when kent in the incorpo
rate limits, must he confined at least
yards from any dwelling or well.
He stated that heretofore this has not
been obeyed to the letter, hut hence
forth it would be rigidly enforced-
An incident that cn*ated quite a
stir and no little excitement at the
time, occurred Tuesday. Just as
No. 37, the fast southbound vestibule
train was entering the (Jaffney yards,
Supervisior Coyle in charge of the
conntv traction engine, was crossing
the track with the '-ngine and a st-ine
of cars at the Frederick street cross
ing. the engineer of No. 37 saw the
danger just in time to avert the dang
er and to stop the engine. Har’ the
cars and the fast train met. a hor
rible wreck would have been the re
sult.
