Caused by The Wreck.—Train Re
ported Consumed by Fire.
Norfolk, Va., April 4.—A serious
wreck occurred on the Norfolk and
Western railroad, fifteen miles from
Norfolk, Wednesday. The cannon ball,
a fast express, ran into an open switch
at Juniper siding.
A special train carrying seven doc
tors and a wrecking crew was hurried
ly sent from Norfolk to the scene of
the wreck.
it is not yet known whether any one
was killed or the extent of the injuries
sustained.
It is said the train was consumed
by fire.
THE ITCHING WAS ALMOST UNBEARABLE.

Shot Woman; Was Then Killed.
Atlanta, April 4.—L. B. VVilmoutb
was slabbed to death Tuesday night
by Walter J. Hightower, after Wil-
-mouth had shot and seriously wound
ed .Mrs. Carrie .1. Bryant, Hightower’s
married sisttu*, at the residence of Mrs.
Bryant’s mother, where she was tem
porarily staying. The killing of Wil-
mouth came as the culmination of a
long series of alleged persecutions, on
his part, of the married woman with
whom he was in love, so the family ol
Bryant state. Wilmouth had mad*
his home with the Hightowers from
childhood, and loved Carrie Hightow
er; but she married W. L. Bryant.
Wilmouth enlisted in the army and
went to the Philippines, and upon his
return took up his abode again with
Mrs. Joe Johns, who is the mother ol
Mrs. Bryant and the Hightowers.
Robbers Secure Big Sum.
Brunswick, Ga., April 4.—Probably
the biggest robbery H«at ever occurred
here has been reported by Captain To
bias Newman, chairman of the city
council and a prominent liquor dealer.
His safe was robbed of more than
$2,000 in cash. It is presumed the
burglar hid in the store the night be
fore until after the place was closed
and proceeded to crack the safe and
help himself to the contents. De
tectives have been employed to appre-
hejrd the perpetrator. As yet no clew
has been found.

Republican Lead in Kansas City.
Kansas Cily, April 4.—Every one of
the fourteen members of the upper
house of the new city council is a Re
publican and ten of the fourteen mem
bers of the lower house are Republic
ans. The four Democratic members
of the lower house were the only Dem
ocrats successful in Tuesday’s election
Of the councilmen elected none voted
for or favored the gas and street rail
way franchise extensions ordinances
that were before the late council. May
or-e’eci Beardsley, Republican, has a
majority of 1,550. The Socialist vote
was trivial.
There is nothing more distressing than an itching, burn
ing skin disease, and upon the return of warm weather those
who are afflicted with skin troubles find the symptoms appear
ing and know that they will be tormented through the hot
summer months. The blood is heated with humors and acrid matter, and as they are forced

tracted from the food there still remains a
portion that is useless, or waste matter,
which is intended to be disposed of through
the natural channels of bodily'' waste, the
Liver. Kidneys and Bowels. At this season
of the year, however, these organs become
torpid, dull and sluggish, aud fail to perform this’duty, and these accumulations remain in
the system and are absorbed by the blood to ferment and sour, producing burning acids and
acrid humors. The blood cannot properly nourish the system while in this impure condition,
and begins to throw off these acids through the pores and glands of the skin, producing Acne,
Eczema, Tetter, Psoriasis, Salt Rheum and skin diseases of every description.
ECZEMA appe ars usually with a slight redness of the skin, followed by pustules from
which there flows a sticky fluid that dries and forms a crust, and the itching is intense. It
is generally on the back, breast, arms, legs and face, though other parts of the body may be
afflicted. In TETTER the skin dries, cracks and bleeds, and is often very painful. The acid
in the blood dries up the natural oils of the skin, causing a dry, feverish, hardened condition
and giving it a leathery appearance. ACNE makes its appearance on the face in the form of
pimples and black-heads, and is particularly disagreeable because of its unsightly appear
ance, while PSORIASiSn a scaly disease, conies in patches on different parts of the body.
One of the worst forms of skin disease is SALT RHEUM* It discharges a watery fluid, form
ing sores and producing intense itching. The head and face are the parts usually affected,
and sometimes the hair falls out and a mass of sores forms on the scalp.
These and all skin diseases are due to the same cause—burning acids and humors in
the blood, and until this vital fluid is cleansed and made pure they will continue. The best
treatment for all skin diseases is S. S. S., a remedy that is purely vegetable, being made en
tirely from roots, herbs and barks, and acts directly on the blood with a cleansing, healing

Evansville, Ind., April 4.—The high
est water here was 48 feet in 1884. The
present rise probably will go to 42
feet. The rise continues, the gauge
marking 40.7 feet Wednesday morning
■till rising. Some factories located
on Pldgeon creek in the lower part of
the city have ceased operation because
of backwater caused by the river. The

the city are under water, but it is be

feet from the street.
Christian Mueller, of Tiffin, O., It
dead at the age of 85. He is said
to have manufactured the first lager
beer in Ohio—in 1848.
Dr. George W. Whitney, of Mohican
O., has pleaded guilty to the charg
of arson, and was sentenced to the
penitentiary for one year.
George R. Lee, one of the most prom
inent farmers of Halcyondale, Ga.,
died suddenly while attending services
at Black Creek church, of which he
was a member.
While a Big Four pasenger train
was held an hour in Muncie, 111., a ba
by was born to Mrs, C. L. Dobyns, a
young Kentucky woman, who was trav
eling from Maysville, Ky., to Join her
husband.
Charles C. Dalgm, of West Farm
Ington, O., who killed R. K. Lewis on
Jan. 19, pleaded guilty to second de
gree murder and was given a life
sentence. Lewis was a wealthy farm
er, capitalist and local politician.

which he recently purchased, Millard
Yales, of Gibson county, Indiana, con
cocted a prescription for hirasell
which was ..aid to cure liver trouble.
Yates is in a serious condition and
