Wilkinsville, March 27.—Last Tues
day morning wo left Gaffney for Cow-
pens and Clifton. On our way we
stooped and took dinner with Mr. L.
B. Davis, who we found busy at his
farm work. Mr. Davis has been teach
ing until compelled to quit his
•school and go to the farm. It’s a
matter of Impossibility to get hands,
and he. like many others, has to do
his own farm work or let it go un
done.
That night we found ourself at
busy, hustling Clifton, where we
spent the night with the family of
Mr. C. A. Sparks, who Is boss of the
spinning department.
Next day we passed back through
Cowpens, where we have done a fair
ly good business and have been clev
erly treated and patronized by the
peoplp of that little city. We took
dinner with Mr. Charlie Dorman.
From anything like city airs Cow-
epns Ts as free as any place of its
size we have ever visited. It’s made
up principally, if not entirely, of peo
ple from the surrounding country.
One of our neighbors, in speaking of
the place and its business men, said
he had rather trade there than any
place be ever dealt with.
That night we stopped with Mr.
H. M. Maynor. “Mike” is one of the
most independt-nt men in; Spartan
burg county. He has about six boys,
who make good farm hands, and plen
ty of stock and feed to run a large
three-horse farm. He Is doing well.
So far as we could see, and we are
glad to mention this fact. Besides
running a farm he Is much Interested
In schooling his children.
Here we met some of our old
noifhbors and acquaintances we had
not seen in a long time. We found
Ion service would he held, preparatory
services beginning on Saturday before
at 3 o’clock P. M., to which the nub
ile, and especially the communicants
of other denominations, are most cor
dially Invited to attend.
Mr. J. T. Bingham, of Sharon, Is
spending a few days wit*, his daugh
ter, Mrs. Sallie B. Estes.
Mrs. Amanda Lee Is visiting her
sister, Mrs. J. L. Strain.
Mrs. R. A. Foster and children, of
Hickory Grove, are visiting her pa
rents, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Estes.
Miss Bonnie McCluney visited Mrs.
Lizzie Mitchell, of Hopewell, last Sat
urday.
Misses Clara Flemming and Olo
Wilkerson, with Mr. Tom Wilkerson,
attended preaching secvice at’ Salem
last Sabbath.
By taking uo a consignment of
neighborhood gossip we could im
measurably prolong our letter. We
will ask to be excused.
We fully agree with “N. G. L.” in
the sentiment expressed in his letter
to The I edger. A court of law has al
ready passed upon the case of George
Hasty and it is time he was left to
his fate.
Mr. “L.” is a level-headed man, a
forceful writer and one who never
uses a particle of buncombe. His ap
peal to public sentiment is enough
for all right thinking people. If
