Barlow 4. Wilton.
Barlow & Wilson’s Minstrels, the
pioneers and veterans in minstrelsy
appeared at the Star Theatre Friday
evening, to a good sized audience.
Most of the company had appeared in
Gaffney before and were well known,
all, however, were accorded a wel
come by the auidence. The comedi-
ane ere funny and the singers sing
fairly well, which makes a pleasing
combination and make up a m.nstrel
performance that satisfies. All did
well, those perhaps deserving especial
! mention being Lawrence Barlow and
Jimmie Kennedy, who cannot be com*
plimented any higher than to be class
ed as funny, which is their calling.
Ramsdell, the young contortionist, and
DeVillis on the unfiupported ladder,
are worthy of mention. The band and
' orchestra was aiso up to the average
1 and the music they furnished was first
j class. An incident appealin- particu
larly to Gaffney people was the ap
pearance of several South Carolinians
with the aggregation. Messrs. Rich-
| ardson and Jacobs are from Charles
ton. Both are exceedingly clever
I young gentlemen and have an act to
gether in which they appear to good
advantage. Mr. Richardson acts the
1 rather difficult part of middleman or
interlocutor in the first part in a thor
oughly satisfactory manner. Should
Barlow & Wilson appear in Gaffney
again they will doubtless be given a
good reception.

Gaffney. S. C.
Dear Sir: “Three-quarter paint” is
a good phrase for the best outside of
Devoe.
Devoe is the standard- mark it 100.
The next-best—there are several not
far apart—are three-quarter paints-
you may mark them 75 to Devoe’s
100.
The bulk of the paints jn market are
40 or 50 or GO; a few are better than
GO; a few are worse than 40.
How do they act? Thev cover
from one to three-quarters as much
as Devoe; and they last from one to
three-quarters as long as Devoe.
What are they worth? The same
rule don’t hol^j it costs more to put-
on some paints than they are worth;
they are not worth anything; the
“put-on” costs two or three timets as
much as the paint. Yours truly
