A JUST VERDICT.
The twelve men composing the
Jury that tried George Hasty are to
be congratulated upon the righteous
verdict at which they arrived. The
ceedingly bad taste. We regret that
these women are to return to the
North and relate the story of such
treatment in the South.—Spartanburg

The law of the land has been up
held. It should be a warning to
the other members of the Hasty fam
ily, w'ho. we understand, have openly
and flagrantly violated the law. This
thing of running a blind tiger, a
gambling room, and an assignation
house under the cover of a hotel li
cense, and inviting respectable peo
ple to stop there and be subject to
insult and indignities will not do and
the people wijl not stand for it. We
do not know that the Hasty's did
this, but It is common talk that that
was the manner of hotel business
they did.
We repeat that we feel sorry for
George Hasty but we believe it was
a just verdict.

An effort is to be made to organize

an organization and The Ledger sin

success.

We are very much indebted to Mr.

give our raders a greater variety of
news matter.
silen* whispering trees stand groups
of women and children, all with hor
ror-stricken faces, faces so pale with
wonder that so much can be said to
crush and wound, ah! even rob, a pure
woman, one of God’s frailest creat
ures; a woman, the name onlv which
bespeaks frailty, thrown out in the
great unknown world to earn bread,
with no eye to Ditv no hand to pro
tect save man, and he the first to oast
a stone.
Perhaps a father, an! even a moth
er, awaited in some distant State to
catch the first lines of the press
praising their child and bestowing up
on her efforts the reward she so richly
deserves, but with horror their eyes
fall upon the page that tells the sad
story. Lives have gone out, and the
hand that dealt the cruel shot was
that of a n.an, and instead of success,
humiliation and broken hearts have
been their reward. They came among
strangers but when the cry for sym
pathy and help came every heart and
hand responded aud Gaffney came
forth like a mighty army to defend
the frail helpless women. Homes
were thrown open and no true heart
has even dared to withhold its sym
pathy. But amidst all the humilia
tion and heart-rending scenes there
is One who is just and has power to
heal all wounds and bind up the brok
en hearts and sive peac*> and happi
ness once more.
And now to the man who dealt the
cruel blow: may he in deep humilia-
tion seek a Father’s pardon. A soul

Where Baking
Begins Right
The baking of the NATIONAL BISCUIT COMPAKY
begins with right material, and every step ther^
after through the whole process of baking is
right. There is not one point of quality that
care, skill and modern bakeries could make better.
It is perfection itself—through and through.
It Ends Right
when it reaches your table untouched by strange hands,
untainted by odors. The quality, oven-flavor and freshness
are preserved in a dust and moisture proof package, distin*
guished by the trade mark here shown. It always appears
in red and white on each end of the package and warrants
the perfect condition of the contents. For example try
packages of
GRAHAM CRACKERS—possessing the rich, nutty
flavor of graham flour—unlike any graham crackers yoa
ever tasted.
FROTANA—a temptingly delicious union of biscuit
and fruit—the newest dehcacy of the National Biscuit
Company.
