Prosperous Section.
Ravenna, MArch 1.—Miss VLnnie
Pettit, one of our charming young la
dies, returned home last Wednesday,
after spending the winter in Florida
with relatives. The way her friends
crowded around her last Sunday af
ternoon, showed they were glad to
have her among them again.
Mr. R. E. L. Goforth, one of our
hustiling farmers, spent last Friday
night in Spartanburg, the guest of his
brother, Mr. Cliff GoforUh.
Mrs. A. M. Bullington, of Whitney,
has just returned home after spend
ing a week with her parents. Mr. and
Mrs. T. C. Green.
Mr. R. W. Spake and son, Sylvester,
made a return trip to Spartanburg
last Thursady.
Misses Oliver Gresham, Louise Si-
bert, M^ry Bonner, Rossie Foster and
Messrs. G. A. Bonner, Victor Foster
and Will Tate, were all visitors in our
Sunday school last Sunday evening.
Mr. Jim Griffin, of Gainesville, Fla.,
arrived here last Saturday and will
visit bis kindsman during all this
week.
Our superintendent, Mr. Tom Green,
made an excellent speech last Sun
day evening. His subject being, “A
friend in need is a friend indeed.”

Maggie Goforth and Messrs. L. D.
and J. A. Goforth, D. D. Brown and S.
L. Littlejohn, all spent a short while
last Sunday evening with C. T. and
Miss Mary Lou Chalk, and all seemed
to enjoy themselves very much, espe
cially a solo. “Saved by Grace,” ren
dered by Miss Ella Brown, one of our
lovable young ladies.
Mr. G. F. Spake, whom we have
mentioned as being in feeble health,
was able to attend Sunday school lasc
Sunday for the first time in several
months.
Mr. J. B. Brown, one of our leading
farmers, made a trip to Spartanburg
last Monday.
Miss Paulin.e Pettit, an able teach
er, opened up school here last Mon
day morning with seventeen pupils
enrolled. This is the second time
school has been opened here this
school term.
Messrs. G. E. and Paul Brown, of
Jonesville, visited relatives here last
Sunday.
Mr. F. K. Goforth, who is working
in the mills at Pacolet. will quit his
job and return to the farm where he
can be his own boss.
Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Bonner, of Paco
let Mills, visited their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. B. G. L. Pettit, here last
Sunday, C.
Letter From Indian Territory.
Mannsville, Ind. Ter., Feb. 26th.
Mr. Editor.—Please allow me space
in your valuable paepr for a short let
ter from the Territory. I have been
at this place two weeks and think it
is a fine country. Mannsville is a
small town situated on the Rock Is
land railroad eighten miles east of
Ardmore near the Washitaw river,
with a population of about two thous
and. They have four churches, two
"ood schools, one bank, one hotel and
twelve or fifteen business houses,
with men that get up and hustle.
There are a lot of people here- from
old South Carolina and other States
which I think means success for the
Territory. The general talk of the
Cay is the statehood bill, which they
hope to get in the near future.
All the farmers are busy getting
ready for another corp. They raise
cotton, corn, oats, potatoes, etc. They
also raise horses, mules, cattle and
hogs in abundance. Good mules are
worth from one hundred and twentv
five to one hundred and seventy-five
dollars. Beef cattle two cents per
pound on foot. Hogs four to four and
one-half gross. Corn is worth from
thirty- three to forty cents per bushel.
Game is very plentiful out here,
consisting of wolves, coons, oppos
urns. Jack rabbits, quail and a few
turkeys.
The weather is very ckangable
with plenty of wind, but with no bad
results.

Hicks, wife of James Hicks, of Gow-
ieysville, died the 22nd ult., and was
buried at Corinth yesterday, 28th.
Mr. W. W. Whelchel attended court

There is a great deal of plowing be-
ine done in this section at present.
Mr. J. A. Alexander attended coujrt
Monday.
Mr. Jaanes went to Gaffney Mon
day on business at court.
Mr. J. V. Whelchel from above
