who were masked, overpowered the
night watchman, bound, gagged and
confined him to an adjacent ware
house, and then attempted to blow
open the safe of the manufacturing 1
company.
The outer vault yielded to nitro
glycerine, and they had similar sue

the vault, securing 540 or 550.
The supply of explosive was ex
hausted when they encoumrcd a third
burglar-proof vault, and they return
ed to the warehouse in which they had
imprisoned McMichael, threatening hi
life unless he informed them of some
place in town where they could secure
more dynamite or nitro-giycerine. Tiu
nightwatchman refused to give them
any assistance whatever.
The burglars were frightened off.
