Lady Burned While Trying to Save
Her Child.
Mrs. Wick Guthrie, of this city, suf
fered a horrible accident Monday
morning while in the act of saving her
little child from death, by being burn
ed. The little one was standing near
the fire at the home of its parents on
Montgomery street when the fiames
caught the dress of the child and It
was soon observed to be burning.
Mrs. Guthrie seeing her little one to
be in imminent danger of death at
the hands of the fire rushed to the
rescue attempted to extinguish it
and to save the life of her little one.
Fortunately she was able to subdue
the flames and to draw the child
away. The burned child is about
three or four years old and is not
thought to be seriously hurt. Its
face was slightly burned and its hair
severely singed. Mrs. Guthrie, al
though painfully burned, is not thought
to be seriously hurt in her heroic act.
Much wonder and surprise were ex
pressed at the remarkable presence
of mind and bravery exhibited by her
in saving the life of her little child.
With one accord all hope for a speedy
recovery and return to health for the
mother and little one.

Mrs. C. A. Wood Expires Suddenly at
Hep Home in the City.
Yesterday afternoon just before our
forms closed the sad intelligence
reached us that Mrs. C. A. Wood nad
died suddenly. The news was reciev-
ed as a great shock by nearly every
one in the city. Mrs. Wood was not
known to he in bad health. Heart
disease was the cause of her sudden
demise. This death is peculiarly sad,
as Mrs. Wood was almost a bride,
having been married not quite two
! years. She was formerly Miss Brown,
I of Pacolet. until her marriage to Mr.
j C. A. Wood, a popular young business
man of the city. In connection with
the death of Mrs. Wood the strange
coincidence'is brought up that she is
j the fourth of her family to die sud
denly.
The entire city and community
deeply sympathize with the bereaved
young husband and the family and
relatives of the deceased lady.
