WORK OF THE CRUSADERS. Much Interest Being Manifested In Their Meetings. The issues ot teh special aeries of revival meetings ia the court house are encouraging, and though these services hare been in progress a little more than four weeks, it seems that the good work is just properly begun. During the past week marked pro gress has been manifested in atten dance and in spiritual interest. Those who were brought to Christ during the first two or three weeks were persons whose hearts were more easily inclined toward God, but now others are being reached for whom a more persistent effort must be made, ere they can be persuaded to surrender their wills to God, al though they are no less in need of salvation. According to the report of the re cording secretary of the Christian Crusaders, in thirty-two days the fol lowing record has been made: Thirty-nine public and about twice as many private meetings have been held; missionary work has been done in 346 homos; fifty-three persons have sought salvation, and forty-six have professed faith in Christ. Many older Christians have stated that these services have been a source of much strength to them, and they are being drawn nearer to God. Some unsaved ones are being saved in their homes, and many others who attend the meetings nightly are under deep conviction of sin. It is hoped that in the very near future the prayers of God’s children may so prevail that these and many others, some of whom are now very indifferent to this all important matter, may be brought within the fold of Christ, where there alone Is safetv. Those who attended the meeting Sat urday night, Dec. 30, witnssed a great outpouring of the Spirit. Lieut. Mar- den preached from the 25th chapter of St. Matthew, on the “Ten Virgins.” The spiritual application of the para ble of the Ten Virgins was instructive and very edifying, and in the power of the Spirit, the sister endeavored to impress upon the minds of the peo ple the great importance of prepar ing for eternity. She related some very touching incidents, one which was the beautiful death bed scene of Ruth Anderson, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thos. E. Anderson, of States ville, N. C., where the Crusaders labored about three years ago. This incident brought many to tears. In the aftermeeting twelve persons re- questd prayer. Twelve penitent seek ers knelt at the altar, nine of whom were happily converted. One sister was saved at her seat during the service. There was much rejoicing among loved ones over the conversa tion of these precious souls, and we know there was rejoicing in Heaven for the Scriptures Inform us that, “There is joy in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth.” The meetings of Sunday were well attended. In the afternoon General Light preached from the 13th chapter of 1st Corintians on the “Perfect Christian,” as portrayed and charac terized by the Apostle Paul. Some present received light which they had never had before. All Christians were exhorted to get into such an attitude before God that His love could be perfected in their hearts. There were present in the meeting on Sunday afternoon Brother R. W. White and daughter, and Bro‘her Saunders, of Gastonia. Bro. White, in his remarks, advised the young converts to spend much time upon their knees in prayer, and in studying God’s Word. Bro. Saunders was converted during the meeting of the Crusaders in Gastonia. He and his wife, after being under conviction for several weeks, were blessedly saved. His wife was promoted to glory last summer. She died triumphant In the faith. Bro. Saunders said Sunday in his testimony that he was determined to bo true to God and meet his wife in Heaven. An. immense congregation was present at the meeting on Sunday night . Lieut. Parmenter preached from the 1st chapter of Hebrews in connection with tho 72nd psalm, on “The Precious Name of Jesus.” Her exposition of the text proved that with all the attempts to blot out the name of Jesus, it stands yet, and will endure forever. The unsaved, to whom Jesus’ name had not become precious, were exhorted to believe on His name and test His power to save and keep. The Holy Spirit spoke to many hearts. One man yielded to the Snirits’ woolngs. A young lady of the town who has been a church member for several years, but. had never had the knowl edge that she was converted, has been much Interested in her soul’s- sal vation during these meetings, and has felt very keenly the need of a per sonal experience with God. She was dealt with personally during the after meetings and advised to pray until she knew that she had experienced the "New Birth.” She testified in the aftermeeting on Sunday night that on Sunday mornng in her home she received the evidence that she was saved. God’s word was verified to her, i. e., “Ye shall seek me and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” The presence of God was felt in the service on Monday night. The Christmas had more liberty in the tes timonial service than before. Forty- seven witneses spoke for Christ, many more stood, showing that they were on the Lord’s side. The testi monies of the young converts are very encouraging. Many say that they never before experienced such peace and happiness as they now enjoy. One young man testified that he had been saved from a drunkard’s grave. Who can doubt that such expressions could come from any but a heart changed by the power of God? Some of the older Christians are testifying for Christ who have never done so before. We trust that in the very near future the Christians of Gaffney may be so filled with the Holy Ghost, that, where there are now so few ready witnesses for Christ there may be hundreds to gladly and readily bear testimony to God’s glory whenever an opportunity is given thme to do so. God was present in convicting eua converting power In the salvation meeting on Tuesday night. Two souls knelt at the altar, both of whom professed to be converted. One of these was a traveling man who came! voluntarily to the altar from the rear; of the house. What has been done in these ser- vices up to the present time, is only j in answer to the agonizing prayers of God’s faithful ones. Let the Cnris- tians spend more time unon their knees, that greater victories may be achieved to God’s glory, in the up building of Christians, and in the sal vation of sinners. P. S.—Since the above was written, the Lord has continued to pour out His Spirit in an abundant measure, and the interest Is yet increasing. The meetings of last Saturday and Sun day nights were very largely attend ed. and grand and glorious results were obtained. On Sunday night, after a plain, gospel sermon had been preached by Lieut. Parmenter, from text, “Take ye heed, watch and pray, for ye know not when the time is, lest coming suddenly He find you sleeping” eight precious souls found thir way to the foot of the cross, and, upon bended knees at the altar, poured out their hearts to God and agonized audibly for salvation. All but one of the number were soon saved and were given “the oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” Their testimonies were most convinc ing that a work of grace had been wrought in their hearts. / CANCER CURED.
