NEW DEPOT IN SIGHT.
Contract Awarded—Work to Begin
First of January.
Yesterday’s Charlotte Observer con
tained the following news item which
will be read with a great deal of in
terest and pleasure by every citizen
of Gaffney;
Mr. J. A. Jones, the Charlotte Con
tractor, has been awarded the job for
the construction of the Southern’s
new $10,000 depot at Gaffney, S. C. A
telegram announcing this was receiv
ed from Mr. D. W. Lum, chief engin
eer in Washington, yesterday. Mr.
Jores will probably begin work about
the first of January and expects to
have the depot completed by the last
of May. He is now encaged In the
rearing of the new Highlands Hotel,
which, when complete, will he on-' c
tin finest buildings in the State.”
Contractor Jones is quite weB
known in this city; and the fact
that he has the contract for erecting
the Southern’s new denot insu es a
handsome building, first-class wortt-
manship and prompt construction.
Verily, Gaffney will soon have a de
pot of which she may well feel proud;
and we should appreciate the South
ern’s efforts to give us one which will
bo an ornament to our city.

At a regular communication of Gra-
nard l^odge No. 180. held December
5th, 1905, the following officers were
elected and installed to serve for the
ensuing year:

At the regular communication in
November in pursuance of a resolu
tion, the time of meeting was changed
from the first Tuesday night in each
month back'to Saturday night, on or
before the full moon in each month.
There are now one hundred and six
members in Granard Lodge, and it is
very much desired that more of the
members attend the regular communi
cations.
Surprised Their Friends.
Mr. Henry Lockhart and Miss
Louise Gilmer, two prominent young
people of this city, surprised their
friends Tuesday night by repairing to
the Baptist parsonage and taking up
on themselves the vows which made
them one for life. Dr. Simms per
formed the ceremony in the presence
only of the members of his own
family.
Miss Gilmer is the daughter of Mrs.
A. M. Gilmer, of this city, and is a
very modest, attractive and popular
young lady. Mr. Lockhart is an effi
cient member of the city police force,
and the number of his friends is limit
ed only by the circle of his acquaint
ance.
The Ledger wishes them a bright
and prosperous life, full of the hap
piness they both merit.
