Do not overlook the pleasant things of life, which mean fortune and happiness. And do not make books your only friends, for they are small comfort out in the cold, hard world. This advice was recently given to University of Chicago students as the formula for success by Professor Frank J. Miller, the Midway dean o: aflilintions. says the Chicago Uecord- Hcrald. The recent utterances of •iolm L>. Rockefeller, who lias express ed himself as opposed to being a "good fellow,” were completely ignor ed by the professor. His address was entitled "Some Students’ Musts.” "It is not good for man to be alone,” said Professor Miller. "Therefore cul tivate the social graces. By this I do not mean going to balls seven tiinps a week or even six. Dances are all right- hut there are other places than ball rooms to learn the social graces. Learn to gain access to your fellow men. It is wort!) a fortune to he a "good mix er.” It means a life full of happiness. The really successful man gets around among men and does not hold himself apart." v A report received by the Canadian government from Alexander McLean, Canadian commissioner at Yokohama, says that the recent agitation of the life insurance matters In New York has seriously affected the Japanese business of both American and Cana dian companies. > pISO’S CURE FOR *1 , CUES WHERE AIL ELSE FAilS.
