A Merry Comedy Tonight and a Week
of Amusement.
As a play, the merry qjusical jungle
“Pickings From Puck,” has perhaps
a plot as light and transparent as the
snray from Niagara Falls cataract,
but as a bright, tuneful and pretty
vehicle to carry a load of fun and
entertainment, it is as solid an any
comedy that lias ever emanated from
New York.
A comedy in which there is first to
last not a dull moment, replete with
pretty girls, catchy music, unctuous
comedy and presented with an excel
lent cast is bound to be a success, and
i acb an attraction is "Pickings From
t'i'ek,” which will be presented at the
Star Theatre tonight.
A clever book, catchy songs, beauti
ful women, handsome gowns, excel
lent stage management and a fine
company are the factors of success
and they are all found In the merry
musical comedy, “Pickings From
Puck.”
The sale of seats for the merry
musical comedy, “Pickings From
Puck,” is now on and it is expected
that this well known “Musicality”
will be received by a large audience.
No matter how much intrinsic merit
a piece may possess, the American
public likes something new. Recog
nizing that fact, the management of
the popular musical comedy, “Pick
ings From Puck.” now in Its third
successful season, have virtually
made a new production of it. They
have introduced a number of exceed
ingly lively specialty acts, have had
Ed. Jolly, who composed the music,
(and, by the way, Mr. Jolly has writ
ten the score for John C. Fisher’s
$75,000 production of “Babes in the
Woods”), freshen up the melodies,
induced Harry Lane who is respon
sible for the dialogue, to add a lot of
comedy to what was already one of
the funniest olays on the road, and
they have engaged an entirely new
and exceptionally brilliant company,
headed by Edward Jolly and includ
ing Winifred Wild. J. C. Roche. Effie
Pearson, Harry J. Lane. Nettie Flint.
James Kearney and Martin Van Ber
gen. It may safely be said that there
is no more popular piece of theatrical
property on the boards than this
“merry jungle” as it has been antly
termed. At the Star Theatre tonight.

All next week we are to have the
Kennedy Player's at the Star Theatre.
This is a first-class repertoire com
pany. presenting a different play each
night at, popular prices, 1ft, 2ft and 30
cents. Monday night a lady will be
admitted with each reserved seat
ticket, provided tickets are secured
before 6 o’clock Monday evening.
The following is some of the press
opinions concerning this company:
Those who went to th\^ opera house
last night pronounced the Kennedy
Plavers, good, all round actors. “The
Tw’o Jolly Tramps," was a most amus
ing comedy, and kept the audience In
a roar of laughter from start to finish.
John F. Kennedy is a most pleasing
comedian, and comes up to the repu
tation that had preceded him. Miss
Nellie Kennedy is pretty, charming
and talented. Her roles give a pi
quant fascination to an- play in which
she appears. The company is one of~ v
more than ordinary talent, and each
one is well fitted to the characters
they portray.
The specialties are numerous and
good, affording a diversity of amuse
ment, and plenty of fun.
The best company which has ever
appeared in Belleville at popular
prices.—Manager Carman, opera
house.
A company that would do credit to
many dollar attractions seen here this
season.—Lodon Free Press.
John J. Kennedy is an original
comedian, and really an artist, sup
ported by one of the cleverest compa
nies seen at the Royal this season.—
Montreal Star.
The best popular priced attraction
Kingston has ever witnessed.—Kings
ton Whig.
The most elaborately costumed, the
most detailed and complete produc
tion ever presented at the auditorium
by a stock company.—Quebec Chroni
cle, Dr. Stewart. D. C. L. critic.
Excitement Among the Boys.
Great interest and enthusiasm is be
ing stirred up among the boys of this
city as the result of a unique and
original offer made bv W. C. Carpeft-
ter.
This store announces that the salto-
man for Ederheimer, Stein & Co.,
makers of “XtragooD” Boys’ Clothing,
Chicago, will call upon him within
ten days and he offers to give, free,
any $5.00 “XtragooD” suit in his
store to the first boy under sixteen
who finds and identifies this sales
man.
A feature of the plan is the one set
exp-ession which must be used by
the young detectives, who are re
quired to say: “You are from Eder
heimer, Stein & Co., Chicago, and sell
“XtragootJ” clothes.” The sales
man, it is' said, will not admit his
identity unlessi addressed in these
precise words.
So active have the boys become in
their search that every stranger wko
reaches town is quickly besieged and
questionevl by a crowd of young
sleuths.
