Gaines, the celebrated breeder of White .Plymouth Rock chickens, left yesterday for Charles ton where be enters some of his fine birds in the annual poultry show in that city. The splendid specimens he will exhibit caused much notice and quite a lot of favorable comment while awaiting the arrival of the train yesterday. Mr. Gaines takes about fifty from his large stock. A conser vative estimate by Mr. Gaines places their value at $1,000. Among the number was his famous Alice White who has won numerous prizes, being a feature at every poultry show at which she has been exhibited. She i‘ almost a perfect bird, ranking &7 1-4 points, while 100 points marks per fect. A large crowd collected at the depot prior to the departure of Mr. Gaines and his pets to catch a glimpse of the Gaines Plymouth Rocks. . The Cherokee Poultry Yards, of which Mr. E. R. Cash Is proprietor, also sent chickens, these being both red and white. These gentlemen will probably make a very favorable show ing in the Charleston show, as the chickens sent from here are the equals of any of their kind in the en tire south.
