sold about $100 worth of tickets.
j. A. McCraw & Co. lost a very
fine mule last Wednesday night. In
some manner unknown, the mule had
the misfortune to break one its legs.

Dr. Simms spent Saturday and Sun
day at Abingdon Creek church and |
reports having enjoyed his visit,

Mike Stewart, of this county, was
shot Saturday night through the arm
by Obediah Tate. The wound is pain-1
ful, hut it "ill not he necessary for
the arm to be amputated. Tale came j
up yesterday and gave bond to ap-1
pear at next term of court.
The usual service- will be held at |
the First Baptist church this week;
and on next Sabbath. At 4 o’clock
next Sabbath afternoon the church
will have a communion service and,
all the members and visiting Baptists j
are invited to be present.
Mr. Roberts, one of the guards of 1
the penitentiary in Columbia, was in
the city yesterday. He came up for!

fenced to twenty years imprisonment!
for the murder of Cora Rice in this!
city about three years ago.
Mr. June H. Carr was out in his'
new automobile Sunday for the first
time. It is a Moline touring car. cost |

Court of Common Pleas was engag- j
ed yesterday in the case of the Ar
mour Packing Company against M.

a suit to recover judgment for the | j
value of certain meat and lard which
the plaintiff alleges was obtained by
the defendants from St. John Butler
who was the agent of the Armours
at one time in Gaffney. At the time
we go to press the jury has not re
turned a verdict.
Mrs. W. J. Wilkins left yesterday
for Yorkville where she will visit Mrs.
O. E. Wilkins. While in Yorkville
Mrs. Wilkins will enter some of her
splendid chrysanthemums in the
annual flower fair held there today
(Tuesday). Mrs. Wilkins has about
two dozen she will probably enter.
She has two collections, one of whl'.-j
and one of yellow’. Mrs. Wilkins’
chrysanthemums have attained a
mammoth growth, several in the col
lection having grown to the size of
a tea plate.
