Anyone who thinks it a cinch to
get out a newspaper with a short
force should try it a while and be
conrinced to the contrary. The Led

department, so the old man is labor

The fair is a thing of the past, but
there is one thing that the people oi
Columbia should attend to, and that
is the street railway company. It’s an
outrage for them to take ad\antage
of the occasion and charge two fares
to go to the grounds and then to
charge ten cents^ to get on the cars
to return to the Union depot or cit>.
It isn’t the amount of money involv
ed but the principle. It's wrong to
take advantage of the people simply
because they are in position to do so.

There is talk of a primary to nomi
nate a candidate for mayor of Gaff
ney. It appears to us that the plan
is a good one, unless a convention
could be held. The man for mayor of
Gaffney should be honest, straignt-
forward in every respect, and, above
all, a progressive man. We cannot
afford to take a step backward. We
must go forward and in order to do
this we must have a progressive
head, and an honest head.

The Anderson Mail now and then
does the stunt of rendering its entire
editorial page in poetry. The follow
ing is a sample of the "stuff the
Carpenter cuts out:
Now comes the winter of our discon
tent. The summer days have all been
spent. The weather will soon be cold
and dreary, and here’s a thought that
makes us weary: The people, just to
be contrary, are going to vote out
the dispensary.
Gee whiz! That is equal to the
Charlotte Observer’s sweet singer
who rendered that beautiful sentimen
