Brown, of Ravenna, was in the city yesterday. The weather bureau reports cooler weather for today (Friday). J. L. Strain. Esq., of Etta Jane, was among the visitors in the city yester day. Chief T. H. Lockhart is having a nice cottage erected on one of his lots on Buford street. There was “nothing doing” in the mayor’s court yesterday morning— not a single case on docket. E. H. Gaines had some of his fine chickens on exhibition at the State fair in Columbia this week. Quite a number of Gaffney people of both sexes attended the fairs in Columbia and Charlotte this week. Mayor Gaffney has had Oakland cemetery cleaned off this week. This is a work that should not be neglect ed. Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Cudd, of Spar tanburg, were in the city Tuesday, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Carpenter. The Sunday school union of the Broad River Association will meet with the Abingdon Creek church to morrow and Sunday. June H. Carr has purchased a hand some automobile. The machine was put in running order yesterday, and taken out to Mr. Carr’s home. • Dr. Heath Blake, who has been manager of the Cherokee drug store for several weeks, has returned to Gastonia, and Dr. Humphries has re sumed his former position in the store. Mrs. M. B. Phillips died Friday morning abou; 3 o’clock at her home a few miles below Gaffney, and was burled Saturday at Corinth, Rev. E. G. Ross of this city, conducting the n.neral exercises. Carroll & Company have a force of hands at work clearing off and repair ing their dummy line leading out to the lime works at Limestone. The works are being rushed now to fill orders for lime. Rev. F. C. Hickson, of Gaffney, preached ai the First Baptist church Sunday morning and night. He came up to see his old friends here, and was a guest ai the home of Mrs. J. I). Moore.—Gastonia Gazette. The price of cotton on this market went up to 10:20 Wednesday, and the staple was rushed in from the coun try. Tuesday’s sales were 333 bales, and Wednesday the number went to 346. Mr. Ezell, the local ticket agent of the Southern railway, announces that the general quarantines which were in force on account of the yellow fe ver in New Orleans, have been raised, and that travelers by the Southern may go south and west just as before the quarantine, without any restric tions. l-i'ir-e!
