MALARIA
UNDERMINES THE HEALTH
When the ^erms of malaria enter th»
blood the entire health is affected, and il
the blood is not purified of these gerni«
and microbes, Chronic Sores and Ulcers,
Lirer Splotches, Chills and Fever, Boils.
Aches and Pains, and a great variety ot
troubles manifest themselves, and soon
the entire system is undermined, leaving
the sufferer a prey to a most miserable,
weak and nervous condition.
013 W. Market St., Louisville, Ky.
For several years 1 suffered with Chills
and Fever, caused by Malaria in my
system, and each summer for several
years I would have a relapse. Finally
my physician prescribed 8. S. S. I took
a few bottles; this was about six
years ago. It entirely cured me, and
I have never been troubled since. I am
sure no other medicine could havegiven
me so complete and immediate relief,
and I' cannot speak too highly of S. 8. 8
My partner in business is now taking
S. S. 8. foran eruption of the skin, and
a general run-down condition of the sys
tem, and although he has taken but one
bottle, already commences to feel better.
’ I. SHAPOFF.
S. S. S. counteracts and drives all the
poison from the blood and builds up the
system by its fine purifying qual
ities and tonic effects. It strengthen*
every part, increases the appetite, helps
the stomach and digestion, and by sup
plying the body with rich, pure blood
cures Malaria and all its disagreeable ail
ments. Unlike

Fierce Fight Has Been Raging for Pos
session of Great Railway System
Ramsay, Who Opposed Gould's Inter
est, Mads a Bitter ConeLsL
Toledo, O., Oct. 11.—Oeorge J Gould
this morning won a decisive victory
over Joseph Ramsey, Jr, in the contest
of the Wabash road, electing all of the
six directors to be chosen by the bond
holders. The vote cast by Mr. Gould
wa^ 228,510 against 31,840 for Mr.
Ramsey. Tae latter claimed the right
to vote unuer the cumulative system,
which would have given him 191,040
votes. This was disallowed by the
tellers, and Mr. Ramsey was given but.
31.840.
\V. en the meeting opened this morn
ing, George Greer, for Mr. Gould, with
drew the nominations made yesterday
..nd substituted the names of Thomas
H. Hubbard, E. B. Jeffrey, John T.
Terry, Winslow Price, R. M. Gallo
way and B. T. Welles. Tne names
withdrawn were those of Russell Sage,
Robert C. dowry and W. B. Saunders.
Vice President Blodgett as chairman
of the bon.lohlders’ caucus, announced
that the total vote cast by the bond
holders was 200,450, and Mr. Ramsey
at once offered objection, declaring
that his private count differed from the
number stated by Mr. Blodgett to the
extent of 10,000 voters. He demanded
the right to check his list with that
held by the inspectors, bu after a long
argument this was denied him by the
chairman.
Mr. Ramsey was asked if he desired
to make any nominations, but through
conn* 1. Judge Doyle, declined, saying
that lie would vote for whom he
pleased and did not care to nominate
anybody in advance of the vote.
KalMr and Imperial Family Attend
the Marriage Ceremony.
Olucksburg, Prussia. Oct. 11.—The
Prlnceae Victoria Adelheld, eldest
daughter of Duko Frederick, of Scles-
w4g- Holstein - iSondcirburg-Gdueckburg
and niece of Bmprese Auguste Victoria,
was married to Prince Charles Bdward,
duke of 6axe-Cotmrg and Gotha, a
aephew of King Bdward, at midday
today in the beautiful castle here, in
the presence of about 50 members of
the royal families of Germany, among
them being the emperor and empress,
and all tlie imperial children, except
the crown prince, Frederick William.
He and Prince Elitel Frederick are the
young duke’s intimate friends and no
one seeme to know precisely why the
crown prince was absent.
The castle was altogether too small
to accommodate half the number of
guests, so they came in automobiles
or carriages from country places in
the neighborhood.
The imperial party stayed over night
on the imperial yacht Hohenzollern.
The civil ceremony took place in the
wide hall of the castle. Then as
many of the royal guests and their
suites as could be given space went
to the little chapel upstairs where
the religious rite was performed.
A school and business holiday is
being obesreved throughout this minia
ture state, and large crowds of the
bride and groom’s subjects gathered
and gave them an enthusiastic greet
ing when they appeared together on
the balcony of the castle.

Hearts
Are due to indigestion. Ninety-nine of every
one hundred people who have heart trouble
can remember when it was simple Indiges
tion. It is a scientific fact that all cases of
heart disease, not organic, are not only
traceable to, but are the direct result of Indi
gestion. All food taken Into the stomach
which fails of perfect digestion ferments and
swellsthe stomach, puffing it up against the
heart. This Interferes with the action of
the heart, and in the course of time that
delicate but vital organ becomes diseased.

of trust companies waa refered to
somewhat evasively.
No one came out squarely In advo

Heroic Mother Saves Her Boy.
Columbia, S. C.. Oct. 11.—Passengers
on the midday Columbia, Newberry
and Laurens train tell a thrilling story
of a lltle child’s miraculous escape
from death and of a mother’s heroic
Intervention. While the train was
speeding between Little Mountain and
Chapin, a 6-year-old boy, whose name
could not be learned, was standing
upon a car seat by aji open window
when the rapidly moving train lunched
around a Curve and hurled the little
fellow headlong through the window.
The mother, who occupied- a seat be

seat and caught the boy’s ankle just
as it was disappearing over the sill.

New York, Oct. 11.—The New York
cable regarding the offer made by one
of the wealthiest men of that city to
present $50,000 to Dr. Behring, if he
would make known his treatment, cure
of consumption, has excited great inter,
est in Paris, says a cable dispatch from
Paris to the Herald. A Herald cor
respondent called on Dr. Behring who
said:
“I may say at once that I could not
entertain an offer of that kind in such
a form.
"I ha\e made it a principle never to
accept any aid of this kind from pri
vate individuals.”
“It would be ai.ither thing if the
offer came from the /American govern
ment or from some organized scientific
institution, and was made in recogni
tion of the services I have rendered to
science and humanity by the discovery
of the serums, against diphtheria and
tetanus. It is, however, a mistake to
think I have kept my discovery a se
cret. This is not so; but I have cho-
••n and will continue to choose the
persons to whom I make the communi
cation. My only desire is to have
suoh collaboration as I know will ad
vance the matter.”

“During the present Insurance investigation in New York, Mr.

Actuary of the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company, of New

were not about 25 per cent, of the income like those of the other
concerns under investigation; and when the Actuary replied that
the expenses were only 15 per cent, of the income, Mr. Hughes
excused him from further testimony, and made no inquiries
about irregular deals and rake offs, such as have been keeping
the officials of the big concerns on thd anxious seat.” From an
