Mr. J. T. Bnmlett, who has been in
the contracting and building business
here for about two years, has moved
his family back to their old home at
Simpsonville. in Greenville county.
A young Japanese woman on trdin
No. yesterday morning attracted
considerable attention from the crowd
gathered at the depot. She was quite
i curiosity to most of the beholders.
Thieves have recently been raiding
orchards, patches and chicken roosts
iround Limestone. It would be well
if the mayor would send an officer
down in that portion of the city occa
sionally.
Miss Sallie Kendrick, who has been
with W. J. Wilkins & Co. for some
time, is now in the dress goods de
partment of Carroll & Byers, where
she will be pleased to meet her lady
friends.
J. H. Turner will leave for Coving
ton, Ga., in a few days to engage in the
cotton business. He is thinking of lo
cating there permanently, and his
family will probabl- follow him about
the first of next year. Gaffney can ill
afford to lose such men as Mr. Turner,
and we hope he will yet decide not to
move away.
For Selling Liquor.
Nathan Jefferies and Jim Belt, both
colored, were tried before Mayor Gaff
ney Wednesday oh a charge of selling
liquor. They were adjudged guilty
by the mayor; but an appeal was made
to tin* circuit court, and they wore
placed under bond to await trial at the
next term.
Melissa Wilds, a colored woman,
was up for disorderly conduct. She
was fined $2.50, which she paid.
