Smith and Alex Lipscomb Sunday. Only i few of the members of the family partici pated. The Gaffney baseball team went to Spartanburg Saturday and played the Y. M. C. A. ♦«am of that city. The score was 5 to 1 in favor of Spartan burg. The city graded schools will open Monday. September 18th. The in dications are that the attendance will he the largest in the history of the school. The Cowpens hall team will come to Gaffney today and the Gaffney team will n!av the last game of the season at Jefferies’ ball park. The public, es- necially the ladies, are invited to at tend. The Broad River Association, which met at White Plains, closed with ser vices Sunday by Rev. W. T. Thomp son. There was a large attenda.nee and tb' delegates are loud iq their praise of the White Plains people. The association meets with Blacks burg next year. Messrs. Smith and Alex Lipscomb, of Texas, who are in the city visiting relatives and friends, will remain un til the latter part of this week, when they will depart for home. They would he glad to have any old friends they have not mi far met hunt them up before they go. Hasty Bros, have moved their res taurant Tom Limestone street to the Jefferies and Webster building, on De pot street. They are fitting up a nice oyster parlor and lunch room for the accomodation of their patrons. A Ledger representative stopued in at John Alexander’s bolt ling works on Depot street yesterday. Mr. Alexan der and his force were busy bottling the various brands of soda water aqd soft drinks he puts up. When asked about the business, Mr. Alexander said: “I have nothing to comi^aJn of. We sold out Saturday and had io*com- mence bright and early this morning to supply the trade.” Mr. Alexander created a good deal of comment some time ago by extensive advertising of a temperance drink which he called “Egg Nog.” When asked what it, con tained, he said: “No whiskey ajid mighty few eggs.” We can testify that it Ls a good temperance drink. Marshal Bert Hallman arrest ed Dick Ford for transporting liquor and carried him before Commissioner Wm. McGower, of Spartanburg. Ford gave bond for his appearance before Commissioner J. B. Bell, and will be given a hearing next Friday. Meeting at Rehoboth. Rev. Louie Gaines Sunday night closed a ven r successful meeting at Rehoboth church. The meeting had been in progress for a week. There were quite a number of professions and four additions to the church. Tate-Gibson. Sunday night Mr. Jno. O. Tate and Miss Frankie Gibson were united in wedlock by Rev. L. R.
