At the Star Theatre.
The Great Clivette and his company
opened a three nights engagement at
the Star Theatre last night. The pei-
formanee did not begin until after we
had gone to press. This same comp a ?
played In Rock Hill last week and of
them the Rock Hill Herald says:
“The Great Clivette, magician and
his clever company gave an excellent
entertainment at the opera house Mon
day night. ‘Clivette’ is a clever, artis
tic magician and his tricks are upre
date and wonderful. 'The Mystic Lad
der,’ ‘Vanishing Lady' illusion, is very
mystifying and sensational. Clivette
gave a surprise by catching live gold
fish in the air with a fish pole and line
directly over the audiences’ heads. Mr.
and Mrs. W. J. Doyle introduced some
novelty musical instalments with good
selections. Mile. Clivette is a ballad
singer with an excellent voice.
Clivette was in Gaffney seven years
ago, appearing in what is now the
court house for two nights and pleased
the people. He is said to be even bet
ter now than he was then.

Prompt attention given to all business,
In the Days of Old.
On Tuesday, August 8th, a joyful re
union of a few old soldiers took place
at the hospitable home of Mr. D. Bel
ton Free, of Jonesville. Those present
were Rev. A. A. James, chaplain of the
18th South Carolina regiment, now liv
ing at Pacolet; Lieut. Smith Lipscomb,
of the same regiment, now living in
Texas: Lieut. D. Belton Free. T. M.
Lktlejohn, of Cherokee: Wm. Hames,
of Jonesville; Joe Byars, of Pacolet,
Alex Lipscomb, of Texas.
A bountiful dinner was prepared and
served by Misses A. and V. Free, the
charming daughters of Lieut. Free.
The day was most enjbyably spent in
relating incidents of the days that
fried the souls of men. These old
soldiers are marching onward and the
day it not far distant when the tread
of their steps will be no longer heard.
We chronicle with pleasure these
friendly meetings and hope they may
be spared to enjoy many of them.
