OLD SORES
ROOTED IN THE BLOOD
Old Sores are the result of a deeply
polluted, foul bipod supply. The blood
is filled with poisons, and as it finds an
outlet through the ulcer, the surround
ing parts become diseased and the sore
eats deeper into the tissues and flesh and
becomes a permanent trouble.
Some years ago while at work, I fell
over a truck and severely Injured both
of my shin* My blood became poisoned
aa a result, and the doctor told me I
would have running- sores for life, and
that if they were closed up the result
would be fatal. Under this discourag
ing report I left off their treatment and
resorted to the use of S. S. S. Its effects
were prompt and gratifying. It took
only a short while for the medicine to
entirely ^ure up the sores, and I aiq net
dead as the doctors Intimated I would
be, neither have the sores ever broken
out again; and some twelve years have
elapsed since what I have described oc
curred. Having been so signally bene
fited by its use I can heartily recom
mend it as the one great blood -purifier.

Salves, powders, plasters, etc., do no
good, and the sufferer gets disgusted and
often despairs of curing an old sore. The
trouble is in the blood and until the poison
ous matter that is keeping up the ulcer is
driven out the place cannot heal. S. S. S.
reaches these old sores through the blood
by removing every particle of poison or
impurity from the circulation and build
ing up the system. It makes the blood
healthy so that
to the diseased
parts the tissues
are strength-
ened and the
PURELY VEGETABLE. sore can heal
naturally and
permanently. If you have an old sore
or ulcer do not waste time with salves,
powders, plasters, etc., but write for our
uook and ask for any medical advice you
wish. We make no charge for either.

gress, and what Is better, he has had
the brains to absorb It and assimilate
It.
He was a member of the house lor
nearly fifteen years before he be
came known to the people of the na
tion. That means that he was modest
and that he constantly was at work,
not only for his immediate constitu
ency, hut for the people of the coun
try. He was digging and delving for
the things that he thought would best
subserve their interests. He watched
the trend of things and was thor
oughly posted as to how legislation
was pushed through, and he saw how
the Republican narty was doing it to
the detriment of the people and the
enrichment of the few. His few
speeches In the house in those years
had thoroughly impressed the Demo
cratic membership of the house that
he was one of the best equipped men
on the floor, and had thorougnly im
pressed the Republican members t|iat
he was an opponent they did not want
to encounter.
When the time came for him to shy
his castor into the ring as the Demo
cratic candidate for the speakership,
which carries witn it the floor leader
ship, he had practically enough votes
to nominate him. It required only a
little work on the part of his friends
mentioned above. He is cautions,
careful, watchful, fully equipped on
all questions, conservative, courte
ous in debate, usually puts on the soft
pedal, but can use the whip of scor
pions when necessary. He never
eviserates an enemy with invective,
but merely makes them wish they had
died in their cradle or jumped off a
bridge before they tackled him in de
bate. He is most considerate of his
political friends and many times re
fuses to speak on a question, when he
could have handled the subject-mat
ter better than any other man on the
floor of the house, in order to allow
some good Democrat an opportunity
to speak. He is an ideal leader of the
Democratic party so long as it desires
or intends to remain Democratic. He
is a Democrat in the broadest sense
of the word. He dislikes some of the
so-called tendencies of a faction of
the party as much as he dislikes the
hypocrisy and pretense of the Repub
lican party. He is an erudite and
thoroughly equipped leader of his
party, as brave as Spartacus and as
gentle as a woman, full of camaderie
and goodfellowship. an honorable,
warm-blooded, manly man possessing
the affectionate regard and admira
tion of his political friends and the
admiration and respect of his political
foes. He will be elected to succeed
himself by an unanimous vote.

An Interesting Pen Picture of the
Mississippi Statesman—The Ablest
Man in the Democratic Party.
Washington, D. C., Aug. 9.—The call
for the extra session of the 39th con
gress will compel the organization of
the House of Representatives three
weeks earlier than It otherwise would
be organized, and if the delay in the
organization of the house were all that
would retard the legislation that the
president asks for, he would get gome
action inside of the three weeKs be
fore the beginning the respalar ses
sion.
It is practically a foregone conclus
ion that your “Cncle Joe" Cannon will
be re-elected speaker and the old of
ficers of the 58th congress also re
elected. So far as the Democratic
minority is concerned, there is not
the shadow of a doubt that the Hdn.
John Sharp Williams, of Mississippi,
will again be the nominee for speaker,
which carries with it the floor leader
ship during the life of the 59th con
gress, and there could not be a better
selection. The record made by Mr.
Williams as the floor leader in the
58th congress was an enviable one
and deserves the highest consideration
at the hands of the national Democracy.
Democracy In the house in a demora
lized condition, broken up into fac
tions and quarreling among themsel
ves. a veritable mob. He turned a
mol) into an army with banners in
three short weeks and won a signal
victory from the cohorts of trium
phant Republicanism. Every man on
the Democratic side then had the
most implicit confidence in him, and
the men who are the real leaders on
the Democratic side lined up behind
him. and the most of them staid there
to the end of the congress. The only
trouble with the Democratic party is
that the members of it in the congress
of the United States think they are
all leaders and become jealous if any
other man presumes to suggest poli
cies to them. Many of them, in the
presence of the master mind of Wil
liams, swallowed this resentment,
acknowledged the superior leader
ship of Mr. Williams and followed him
gladly. There always are a few kick
ers and recalcitrants in every body
of men and the 58th congress had its
share in the minority membership.
The majority of the kickers and sore
heads were those members who fail
ed to get the committee assignments
they desired, when those assignments
were at the disposal of Mr. Williams.
He could not, of course, give ev j ry
man the best committee assignments
in the house, and there you are. It
may have been a mistake for Mr. Wil
liams to allow Uncle Joe Cannon to
push off on him the committee assign
ments of the Democratic members,
which always has been the preroga
tive of the speaker and hitherto exer
cised by him and the responsibility
accepted by him as well. Some peo
ple said It was a game played by the
Republicans to get the Democratic
membership embroiled, having it pul
ling in all directions, and have fun
with it. If they figured it that way
they recokoned without their host,
for they not only did not pull in all
directions, but as I remarked previous
ly they lined up behind John Sharp,
at least the vast majority of them, and
pulled with him steadily to the end
of the session. The reason that Mr.
Williams accepted the responsibility
of naming the minority members of
the house committees was because the
former speaker, the brainy Tom Reed,
had, in selecting the Democratic mem
bers of the comtmitees, picked out
the very men who could not sej;ve
satisfactorily on the committee assign
ed to him, because not familiar with
its work and then, when there was
some bill before the house for discus
sion reported from some committee
who was the leader of the minority on
the committee, which had made a
minority report, would have charge of
the bill from the Democratic stand
point and invariably would ball mat
ters up In the worst way because he
did not understand the subject, ami
the Republicans would have all sorts
of fun with them.
This is what Mr. Williams endeav
ored to avoid, and he invariably
picked out the strongest men on the
Democratic side for the big commit
tees regardless of his personal feeling
for them, and always from the stand
point of ability to handle the subjects
coming before the committee. Of
course, some other fellow thought he
was a bigger man than the man
picked out by Mr. Williams, hence the
friction and the petty jealousies.
There was some talk here for a while
that the Hon. David A. DeArmond. of
Missouri, would be opposed to Mr.
Williams for the speakership caucus
nomination, and he was being groom
ed by a few of Mr. Williams’ disgrunt
led minority, but the talk has died out
and there is no apparent opposition
to Mr. Williams at this time.
There is no sort of doubt that John
Sharp Williams is the ablest man w’ho
has led the Democratic party in the
house of Representatives for many
years. He is a many sided man. He „ _ . _
has had the advantage of a better | diseases arising from disordered kid-
education than most men in the con- 1 neys or bladder.

A Lawyer’s Nerve.
(Kansas City Star.)
A self satisfied young lawyer went
over to Michigan from Ohio to repre
sent a client of that State who was
mixed up in some litigation over which
the Wayne county court had original
jurisdiction. In the course of argu
ment the Buckeye lawyer became
tangled, and the judge kindly advised
him to back up and repeat with
greater deliberation. Then the court
let ‘he youth down by saying, “If you
do that I will be better able to follow
the thread of your contention.” “Glad
to accommodate you. Judge,” said the
young man as he recovered his con
fidence. “I am dealing with a ver;;
complicated point of law, and I sus
pected that it might be too intricate
for your honor to follow at the rate I
was going.” The dignity of the court
was knocked out, and he joined
heartily in the general laugh.
