NOTES AND COMMENTS.
And now comes Colleton with a pe
tition to Join the ranks of what our
good friend, the Charlotte Observer,
is pleased to term the “morally stunt-1
ed.” We will welcome Colleton to the
ranks of the “pure in heart.”
* • •
Say, brethren, without regard to pre
vious condition of servitude, get ready
to join the press gang at White Stone
Springs July 11-14, and, in the lan
guage of North Carolina’s most bril
liant editor, let us have “a high-heeled
time.”
* * *
Over in North Carolina the Republi
cans are going to start a daily news-
paner. But they will be obliged to fry
a lot of fat out of the Federal office
holders to keep it going atfer they get
it started.
* * *
It is worthy of note that ninety per
cent, of the press of South Carolina
is against the G. M. I. Some of our very
best friends are .supporting the “sys
tem,” but a large majority are agin
it. We wish that every mother’s son
in South Carolina could realize what
a curse the dispensary is to the com
monwealth, for we know that every
man who casts a vote would then reg
ister his protest at the ballot box.
* • •
f The Orangeburg Patriot has com
pleted its tenth year. In making the
announcement it indulges in some par
donable shop talk and self-congratula
tion. Brother Parks is a first-class fel
low and a good newspaper man, and
although he is a red hot dispensary
advocate “here’s ’oping ’e may see the
herror of ’is way and line up to enjoy
many years of pleasure, profit and use
fulness.”
* * *
Here is one on us that is too rich
to hide. Our good friend Pfeiffer, edi
tor of the Blacksburg Chronicle, and
also principal of the Blacksburg
graded school, came over here and
gave us an order to print the com
mencement program for his school.
One of the numbers on the program
was a pantomine entitled “Nearer, My
God. to Thee.” In setting it up the in
telligent (?) compositor made it read,
“Nearer, by God. to Thee,” and in the
absence of our very careful proof
reader the profane substitute over
looked the error. We hasten to assure
Brother Pfeiffer and the patrons of
his school that it was no purpose of
ours to be irreverent, even if the air
in this printery does sometimes as
sume a sulphuric hue.

A week ago yesterday ex-United
States Senator John L. Mcl^aurin de
livered a speech before the Cotton
Growers’ Association of Greenville
county. We don’t know what Mr. Mc-
Laurin’s opportunities to become ac
quainted with the subject have been,
but we do believe that if the advice
he gave is heeded the farmers of the
South will profit thereby. We wish,
however, that he had not yielded to the
temptation to drag the dispensary sub
ject into his speech. We have always
admired Mr. McLaurin, and we sincere*,
ly believe that he is an advanced
thinker on matters of State, but when
he, on an occasion like this, yields to
the temptation to inject politics into
his speech he weakens the cause for
which he is sneaking and gives his en
emies an opportunity that they are
looking for. We agree with all , ’ rt said
in regard to the dispensary, but, in
our judgment, he should have said it
in a speech against the dispensary.
In other words, he should have di
vorced his con-dispensary utterances
from his cotton growers’ speech—but
we had;almost forgotten that there is
no divorce law in this State.

Where Disease Germs Breed.
No Need to Fear "Germs” if the Stomach Be Healthy.
The Ideal breeding place for dis-
lase germs is a weak stomach and
ligestive system. The food, instead
)f being assimilated, turns Into a
>our, slimy, fermenting mass, causing
sases. distress after eating, bloating,
tiausea and flatulency. The poisonous
germs that are given off from this
undigested food enter the blood, and
pimples, bolls, and blotched skin is
the result. Nervousness and sleep
lessness come more often from weak-
ened digestion than from any other
pne cause.
No ordinary food digestive can give
lasting relief. It is absolutely nec
essary, If one wishes to be well, to
use Mi-o-na, the only known remedy
that soothes and heals the mucous
membrane of the stomach and diges
tive tract, stimulates the solar-plexus
and strengthens the nerves of the
stomach.
Ml-o-na Is a guaranteed cure for
all diseases of the stomach, excepting
cancer, a guarantee being given by
Gaffney Drug Co. with every package
they sell, agreeing to refund the mon
ey should the remedy not give perfect
satisfaction.
