Columbus, O., May 24.—Because of the lack of contest on nominations and the late hour in the day set for the first session the majority of the dele gates to the Republican state conven tion did not reach the city until today. Those who arrived yesterday included a number of leaders who conferred un til a late hour over the declaration < principles, their number being in creased during the night by the arrival of Governor Herrick. Trial of Senator for Bribery. St. Louis, Mo., May 24.—The trial of Senator Frank H. Farris on the charge of bribery, which was set for a hearing Tuesday in the criminal court, was continued until next term of court. The continuance was grant ed so that Farris might give testimony in the trial for former Lieutenant Gov ernor Lee, at Jefferson City, on the charge of perjury. Hay’s Heart Is Sound. Civil War Veteran Dies. El Paso, May 24.—Colonel R. F. Campbell, civil war veteran, ex-mayoi and ex-postmaster of El Paso, Tex.. and ex-collector of revenue at Austin, one of the best known men in tht southwest, died today of apoplexy.
