f j unusually large congregations. The
f Buford Street Methodist church was
beautifully decorated for the occasion,
and special music was rendered by
the choir.
The Wood Sisters Company gave
three performances in the Star Thea
tre last week. The show was a good
one; but the attendance was small
throughout the engagement, and the
matinee Saturday afternoon was can
celled on account of the small number
in attendance.
Mr. S. Wittkowski, of Charlotte,
who was to deliver a lecture in the
Star Theatre here tonight on “Ameri
can home the safeguard for American
liberty,” has been asked to postpone
his visit to Gaffney till some future
time, on account of the revival meet
ing now in progress at the First Bap
tist church.

Throughout the Week.
The revival meeting at the First
I Baptist church is still in progress,
! and will continue throughout the
week. Dr. Hamilton is preaching
I some splendid sermons twice a day,
; afternoon and evening, and a great
deal of interest is being manifested
ihy the large congregations in atten
dance upon both the services.
Thursday afternoon at 7 o’clock Dr.
Hamilton will preach a special ser
mon from the steps of the Cherokee
Avenue Baptist church for the benefit
of the people of the mill village who
cannot well attend the regular ser
vices; though, of course, everybody
is cordially invited to be present.
Friday an all-day service will be
conducted at the First Baptist church.
Dr. Simms, the revered pastor of
the church, is earnestly and zealously
assisting Dr. Hamilton in the good
work; and it is hoped that their united
labors may result in much and lasting
good to the people of Gaffney and
Cherokee county.

Within Reach
A Small Wreck.
There was a small freight wreck in
the yards here Saturday afternoon
about 7 o’clock. A box car ran off
one of the switches near the power
house, and was considerably damaged.
The late passenger trains were delay
ed several hours on account of the
accident.

Mayor's Court.
In the absence of Mayor Gaffney
yesterday morning, Aledrman J. F.
Fincken acted in his stead. There
was a good, big crowd on hand when
court opened, mostly witnesses to a
fight between two young white men
Saturday night, and idlers who had
gathered there out of curiosity and to
| “kill time.” The two young men were
fined $2.50 and $5.00 each, vhich they
paid.
Two colored hoys forfeited a $2.50
bond for beating trains, and another
case was continued till this (Tuesday)
morning. *
