Cases of the Week Before the City’s
Tribunal.
Tuesday morning Mayor Gaffney
had three cases on docket which net-1
tod the city sixty cold plunks, and [
throe that contributed $2.50 each to;
the town treasury—the offenders hav
ing forfeited bonds for that amount
which they had put up for their ap
pearance.
There weYe two cases of shooting
within the city limits and violation of
the law for carrying concealed weap
ons, and the others were the usual
“drunk and disorderly”—one of the
“disorderlies,” a colored sport of the
city, being a chronic offender and an
all-round trouble breeder in general,
was fined twenty dollars , with the
usual alternative of thirty days on the
city street force. The twenty was
soon forthcoming, but where it came
from, and how, is one of those mys
teries peculiar alone to that particu-;
lar class of his race.
Wednesday morning the mayor had ;
a short respite from the cares and !
worries incident to his unenviable po
sition. as there was no case on docket.
Yesterday morning there were two |
cases of disorderly conduct, which
increased the city’s hank account to
the extent of five dollars. Both of
fenders plead guilty and paid $2.50
each for fighting on the street.

Beautifying the Park.
The new seats for the City Hall
park have come and been placed on
the* grounds. The park now presents
a very attractive appearance and
when the work of beautifying it is
finished, it will he one of the prettiest
places in the city.
Nice walks have been made across
it, and a pyramid ere^-'d in the cen
ter with water pin • nning to, and
through from the artesian well,
and a small reservoir built around it.
Later on a figure of some kind will
he placed on top of the mound, through
which the water will flow, and a spray
er will also be attached, thus forming
a pretty fountain which will add so
much to the natural beauty of the
park. A wire fence has been put up
along the rear edge of the grounds for
a honeysuckle vine, which is already
growing there, to run upon; and soon
the ugly site along the railroad at that
point will he cut off from the pari:
grounds.*
Nice flower beds have also been laid
off and flowers set out in front of the
city hall building; and during the sum
mer months this will no doubt be a
favorite spot for Sunday strollers and
seekers after pleasure and recreation.
